Chapter 8
I froze when I saw Brian carefully helping Patricia across from me. I hadn’t expected to run into him at the hospital. From the looks of it, he was there to accompany Patricia for a pregnancy check–up.
How unlucky.
I glanced at Sarah, signaling her to push me somewhere else. But just then, Brian spotted
- me.
“Kimberly?”
He walked over, his face full of shock.
“What… what happened to you?” Brian looked

at me, then down at the wheelchair beneath me, his expression one of disbelief.
“Nothing much, just dying,” I said calmly, smiling.
Brian froze in place, stunned by my words.
Patricia, standing beside him, frowned in dissatisfaction.
“Mrs. Young, you and Brian had a peaceful divorce. Speaking like this is a bit too much, don’t you think?”
“The audacity of mistresses these days is astounding!” Sarah shot Patricia a glare.
“You… who are you calling a mistress? Brian and I are in love!” Patricia’s voice trembled with

agitation.
“Enough with your shameless justifications.” Sarah didn’t hold back.
Patricia’s expression grew pitifully aggrieved.
“Brian, look at them…” she whined, tugging at his arm.
But Brian didn’t defend her. Instead, he turned to me and asked,
“Kimberly, are you… sick?”
I ignored him and looked at Sarah.
“Let’s go.”
“Alright.” Sarah turned the wheelchair around,

intending to leave, but Brian blocked our way.
“Kimberly, what’s wrong? Why do you look so terrible?”
Brian’s brows furrowed in concern, his gaze filled with worry. The sight of it made me feel utterly disgusted.
What was Brian trying to do? Showing concern for his ex–wife in front of his pregnant girlfriend?
He was truly… disgusting.
I stared coldly at him, unwilling to respond. Sarah, furious, stormed up and shoved Brian aside.
“Hey! Why are you getting physical?” Patricia shrieked in panic.

Sarah turned and shot her an icy glare.
“Fuck off.”
Patricia immediately erupted, hurling insults in frustration. The scene turned chaotic.
Then, in the midst of it all, Patricia’s hand struck Sarah’s face, leaving the area eerily silent.
Seeing Sarah’s reddened cheek, rage welled up inside me.
“Hit her back!” I ordered coldly.
Patricia, frightened, shrank behind Brian.
“Kimberly, this is a misunderstanding! She didn’t mean it!”

“Misunderstanding?” I scoffed.
Brian’s words were as revolting as ever.
I tried to stand up, intending to strike back for Sarah. But my body betrayed me. I collapsed to the ground, and everything went silent.
When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in a hospital bed. Sarah and Ryan were sitting beside me, their faces heavy with concern. A wave of guilt washed over me.
But what surprised me more was the sight of Brian in the room as well!
Seeing me awake, all three of them rushed over.
“Kimberly, how do you feel?” Sarah’s voice was

full of emotion.
“I’ll go get the doctor,” Ryan said as he hurried out of the room.
“Kimberly, why didn’t you tell me you were this sick?” Brian asked, his face filled with guilt and
sorrow.
“If I’d known you were ill, I would never have…”
He trailed off, breaking into sobs. I didn’t respond, my mind focused on the slap Sarah had taken today.
I was determined to make Brian and Patricia pay for that–an irreversible price.
