Book 5 My Husband Had An
Affair With His Secretary
The moment I stepped out of the hospital, I pulled my coat tightly around me; the northern winter was truly biting.
“Mrs. Sandoval, how are you feeling?”
The driver glanced at my pale face through the rearview mirror and hesitantly asked, “Going
home?”
I stared blankly out the window. It was only when I heard his question that I tightened my grip on the medical report and tidied my hair.
“Take me to the office.”

I don’t usually come to the office, but relying on memory, I made my way to the top floor. Asher’s office door was ajar.
“Mr. Sandoval…”
A sweet voice drifted out, and peering through the crack, I saw a cute girl in a candy–colored suit, holding documents, her tone soft and endearing as if she were pouting.
“What have you done this time?”
Asher pinched the bridge of his nose in exasperation, yet a hint of affection flickered in his eyes.
For a moment, I doubted my own perception.

printing the contract. The secretary said she would deduct my bonus,” the girl said, her voice dripping with grievance. It was Julia, who joined the company two years ago.
I had heard Asher mention a intern who was clumsy yet full of spirit.
“I can barely pay my rent this month. Mr. Sandoval, please show some mercy and let it slide this time,” she pleaded.
“Who else is to blame for your lack of diligence?”
Though Asher was scolding her, after years of marriage, I could clearly see the teasing glint in his eyes.
He used to love teasing me like this; whenever I

made a mistake, he would put on a fierce face.
But when I felt anxious, he would break into a smile, ruffle my hair, and gently ask, “Did I scare you?”
Clutching the medical report, I hesitated to step inside, fearing I might uncover some painful truth.
Yet Julia was utterly unrestrained, beaming as she said, “Then Mr. Sandoval should teach me more!”
With that, she skipped over, grasping Asher’s arm, her eyes filled with admiration tinged with a hint of sadness.
“I wonder what kind of girl Mrs. Sandoval is, to marry Mr. Sandoval.”

At the mention of me, Asher instinctively frowned, pausing for a moment before suddenly saying, “She’s like you a lot.”
I was momentarily stunned, feeling dizzy at the thought. I resemble Julia, his secretary?
“If only I had met Mr. Sandoval earlier,” Julia remarked with a hint of gloom, then tried to lighten the mood. “It seems good men are hard to find!”
I couldn’t see Asher’s expression, but he remained silent for a long time before finally replying, “If I had met you earlier, we wouldn’t have had any chance together.”
“And what about now?”

Without needing to look, I knew Julia and I wore the same expression, both eagerly awaiting his response.
Asher ran a hand through his hair, appearing conflicted and pained.
“Right now, I have a wife. You know–she is my responsibility.”
Responsibility?
I had gripped the medical report so tightly that it tore in half, tears streaming down my cheeks.
I could never have imagined that Asher viewed me merely as a responsibility; what was the difference between that and being a burden?
