Chapter 5
Everyone froze at her words.
Then, suddenly, the study door behind us burst
open.
David rushed out in a panic, pushing his way toward them.
“What happened to Jenny?! What’s wrong with her?”
I stared at David’s back, dazed for a moment.
So, he had been awake all along, hiding behind the door, watching the entire scene unfold.
Even when he saw them tormenting me, he

remained indifferent.
It was all so painfully ironic.
My throat tightened, and a wave of pain washed over me, accompanied by sharp cramps in my abdomen.
Cold sweat beaded on my forehead as I slowly
crouched down.
I couldn’t hear anything clearly.
My blurry vision only caught sight of the crowd as they rushed out in a panic.
Just as David was about to leave, I used all the strength I had left to tug on his sleeve.
Weakly, I whispered, “David, my abdomen

hurts… Please… please take me to the hospital…”
David turned back and shook me off
impatiently.
“Charlotte, stop pretending. I don’t have time for your nonsense.”
“Jenny fell from upstairs while she was home alone. It’s one thing for you to dislike Tina, but are you seriously jealous of a child?”
David didn’t believe me and left the door
without even looking back.
I watched him walk away, my consciousness slowly slipping away…
When I woke up again, I was lying in a hospital

bed.
The doctor told me tha. a neighbor, who had returned home by chance, found me unconscious on the floor.
But unfortunately, it was too late by the time! was brought in.
The baby I had been carrying for just one month… was gone.
In the vast, empty hospital room, the doctor’s cold words echoed.
“I’m very sorry. Early pregnancy often leads to signs of miscarriage. If you had been brought in earlier, there might have been a chance.”
My heart felt as if it were being torn apart. I

placed my hand over my stomach, and tears began to fall uncontrollably.
David and I had been married for three years, and my womb had been silent all that time.
The child we had been hoping for… came at the worst possible time.
I hadn’t even realized it existed before it was
taken from me forever.
And the one responsible for all of this, his own father, didn’t even know what had happened.
Tears fell, one by one, onto the diagnosis paper.
I cried for a long time before I finally, through blurry eyes, reached for my phone and called
David.

But it wasn’t David wicked up–it was Tina.
There was a slight hint of smugness in her voice.
Feigning ignorance, she said, “Charlotte? Oh, I’m so sorry. David didn’t come home last night. I should’ve reminded him to send you a
message.”
I swallowed my sobs, forcing myself to remain composed.
Then, + calmly asked, “Where is David? Let him answer the phone.”
“He’s sleeping…”
My heart sank.

Tina paused deliberately, dragging out the silence before she continued, slowly and smugly.
Jenny hurt her leg. David stayed up all night taking care of her. If you’re worried, I could send you some photos. Is there anything else you
need?”
Her words gave me an absurd sense that our
roles had been reversed.
It was as if she were David’s wife, and I was just some insignificant outsider
As if anything between David and me required
her permission.
A bitter laugh escaped my lips.

Her child was being carefully looked after in the hospital by my husband.
But my own child… was gone.
Suddenly, all my efforts felt meaningless.
I responded coldly, “No need. When he wakes up, please tell him that once he’s finished, he can come back to sign the divorce papers.”
