“George! Stop this madness!” General Palmer’s booming voice filled the room as he stormed in and yanked George away from Amanda. Without hesitation, he struck his son across the face.
The slap landed with a resounding crack, causing George’s head to turn to the side and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
“Have you lost your mind?” General Palmer yelled.
His temple throbbed in anger. His trip home to retrieve some files had brought him face–to–face with a scene of chaos. His son’s hands were wrapped tightly around Amanda’s neck and it was clear the situation had nearly spiraled into tragedy.

George remained silent, but his fiery gaze remained fixed on Amanda.
When Amanda saw General Palmer, she immediately burst into tears and looked so pitiful.
“Dad, George wanted to kill me just because I touched Kelly‘ s things…” she cried, her face a picture of grievance and fragility.
She thought that as long as she told him about Kelly, General Palmer would stand up for her.
Unexpectantly, General Palmer shot her a cold glance and coldly rebuked her, “Who gave you permission to touch Kelly‘ s belongings? As long as I’m here, she will always be part of this family.”
Amanda choked. She felt humiliated and her face flushed with with anger.
Why? Why did everyone care so much about Kelly? I’m supposed to be the future daughter–in–law of this family. Yet, Kelly

always overshadows me!
General Palmer turned his attention to his son and sighed heavily. “If you have something to say, talk it out like an adult. Resorting to violence solves nothing. After all, she is your fiancée.”
The word fiancée made George’s chest tighten. “Dad,” he said. “I want to withdraw my marriage application.”
The room fell into stunned silence.
Amanda‘ s face turned white as a sheet
when she heard this.
General Palmer’s fury flared again, “George! When you first insisted on this marriage, I warned you that marriage is no trivial matter. It’s not something you can treat so casually!”
“The leaders had already approved your marriage application and now you want to back out? You think I’ll let you disgrace this family?”
George furrowed his brows and said,

“Amanda has a despicable character. I refuse to marry her.”
Tears filled Amanda‘ s eyes as she looked up at George and a bitter, crazed smile spread across her face. “I have a despicable character? George, don’t forget, when I confessed my feelings to you, you didn’t refuse me! You never understood your own feelings, too scared to accept Kelly’s love. So you used me as an excuse, as a scapegoat.
She continued, “If it weren‘ t for your indulgence, I wouldn’t have dared to target her. Let’s not forget, you never trusted her and never gave her a chance to explain herself.”
Her voice rose with each accusation that she even screaming as her anger grew.
“The one who truly made Kelly give up on you is you!”
When George’s hidden thought was exposed, he finally snapped, “Shut up!”

Seeing that he was about to attack Amanda again, General Palmer intervened and ordered the staff to separate the two.
Amanda crumpled to the floor and her body was convulsing with sobs. “George, you flaunt our relationship everywhere and everyone knows about it. Now, suddenly, you regret having a romantic relationship with me and want to cancel our marriage, are you even human?”
“How am I supposed to live with that thumiliation? Are you trying to drive me to my death? Will that make you happy?” she asked.
General Palmer finally made his decision. He said, “George, I’ve known Amanda’s father for decades. He is my old colleague. I can’t allow you to treat his daughter like this. Besides, your relationship was built on mutual affection and the marriage application was your idea.”
He added sternly, “I’ve made the decision. After New Year, you’ll be ready to set up at

When she heard this, Amanda seemed to gain her confidence. She wiped her tears. away, raised her face slowly and gave a triumphant smile. Thank you, Uncle Rick. With your support, I feel much more at
ease.
As soon as Amanda left the room, George turned furious.
