Chapter 8
About three weeks had passed since Jake called me about Xavier and I thought I was finally done with Xavier forever, but things were never as easy as it seemed.
While I was getting ready to go to work, I received a call from no one other than Jake. I was quick to end the call, but Xavier kept calling no matter how many times I ignored the call, and in the end, I simply ended up giving in, and I answered.
“Be fast. What is it?” I ordered, placing the phone close to my ear.
“Stella, Xavier got into a terrible accident with rogues. We believe that it’s all an elaborate plan by one of the rival packs, but none of that matters. Xavier got badly injured and from the looks of it, I don’t think he’ll be getting his leg back. You need to come here fast.” The words rushed out of his mouth so quickly that I found myself struggling to comprehend everything.
My heartbeats rang loudly in my ears and when I remained silent, Jake spoke again, this time in a more pleading voice. “Stella, please. He needs you.”
A part of me that was still hurt ached to mention the fact that he was never there when I needed him, but I pushed it aside.
“Fine, I’ll be there soon,” I finally answered.
And just like that, all my plans for the day changed drastically.
Making sure to be as quick as I could possibly be, I made my way to my old pack’s royal hospital, and one of the staff there was so kind to lead me to Xavier‘ s ward.
Surprisingly, I wasn’t shocked to see Quinn lying on the couch beside Xavier‘ s bed. At first, I began to feel like I shouldn’t even have made an appearance in the first place, but when I saw her small stomach in place of her baby bump, my entire perspective changed.
Quinn lost her baby.
Anyone could have called me a cruel witch, but it felt satisfying to see that she had to suffer the same cruel fate that was dished out to me.
21:05
When she noticed me, the calm look on her face completely vanished.
“What are you doing here?! You’ve caused more than enough damage and Xavier doesn’t need you anymore!”
The homewreckers shouting woke Xavier up and it seemed some of her aggressive energy had found its way to him. Eyes as wide as ever and with his eyebrows furrowed, he carried on with the shouting from where Quinn left off.
“What are you doing here?! What do you not understand by I do not ever want to set my eyes on you again! You ruined the relationship between my ex–mate and me and now, you want to ruin my life too! You should be lucky that I haven’t even ripped out your throat yet!”
Quinn just stood there stunned and if I wasn’t connected to this, I would have been just as stunned as she was. Her fire dimmed in an instant and she lowered her head slowly. “I thought you said that you would love me if she was out of the picture,” she muttered.
Xavier scoffed. “I could never love a woman who would be so shameless as to go after a man who already has a mate. It shows just how little your self–respect is and the alpha blood in me could never allow me to settle for less,” he spat, each of his words dripping with
renom.
Quinn’s eyes seemed to water slightly, but then she started laughing and I began to doubt if she had heard any of what Xavier said in the first place.
To make things worse, Quinn then proceeded to fold her arms across her chest. “The alpha in you is gone. You’re being replaced by your brother due to your incompetence, remember? And now that one of your legs is gone, I’m sure that you have given the elders even more reason to dismiss you.
Besides, you can’t blame me for losing Stella. You’re the one who refused to pick her up, fully knowing about the sandstorm. You’re the one who neglected her from the beginning. You’re the one that killed your unborn pup!”
Javier’s eyes narrowed into slits and I was sure that if he wasn’t in such a bad condition, he would have shifted into his wolf already.

“Leave now!” he growled, but Quinn didn’t budge.
None of us would have expected what happened next, Xavier grabbed a nearby surgical knife placed on the desk beside his bed and threw it at Quinn. It hit the middle of the head precisely causing the flesh there to split open.
Quinn fell to the floor with a toe–curling scream.
Quinn’s scream was enough to alert most if not all the healers on the premises and she was quickly rushed into an emergency ward.
In the middle of the chaos, I received a call that I had to quickly step out to attend to, but my stepping out led to me discovering a lot more than I ever imagined.
A voice that sounded much like Jake met my ears and when I tuned into my wolf’s heightened senses, I was able to tell where the voice was coming from which was another hallway.
Following the voice, I saw Jake talking to a man with tattoos covering most of his arms. The odd meeting did strike me as off and so I chose to record the meeting on my phone but nothing could have prepared me for what I heard.
“You can tell Alpha Finn that the attack on Alpha Xavier was successful. For the next phase, we can strike next week at the coronation ceremony for his brother. There we can kill him and ensure that I am next in line to be the new Alpha.”
The tattooed man nodded. “Alpha Finn will be pleased.”
