8 Chapter 8
Alec recognized my phone.
It had a photo of us together from our college days.
Alec grabbed the person’s hand.
“Where did you get this phone?”
The one he grabbed was an orderly.
She had taken it from my bag.
Seeing Alec’s white coat, the orderly didn’t dare lie to him.
“I got it from a dead person.”
Hearing this, Alec tightened his grip on the orderly’s hand in agitation.
“Where is her body?”
The orderly’s wrist ached from Alec’s grip.
“It was sent for cremation long ago. Who knows where her ashes
are now?”
Upon hearing the word ‘cremation, Alec collapsed to the ground. The frightened orderly quickly dropped the phone.
“It wasn’t me, don’t come after me. Nobody claimed the body, we just followed protocol.”
“Here, take the phone. Just don’t come looking for me again.” With that, she ran off without looking back.

Alec stared at the phone before him.
In the photo, I was smiling at Alec.
Alec’s fingers dug into the ground, leaving bloody marks.
“Melody, what am I supposed to do?”
“I was wrong, I was so wrong. Please forgive me, won’t you come back to me?”
after I was out of my mind. I just wanted your family to accept you you donated your heart to your sister.” “This is how you’ll get your wish and have a family.”
Alec didn’t know that since he rescued me, I no longer clung to the idea of family.
He especially didn’t know that my heart would die, that I wouldn’t struggle on the operating table, not because of the anesthesia.
But because he, who had pulled me out of the abyss, had once again pushed me into it.
Until my dying breath, I couldn’t understand why everything I possessed would be snatched away by my sister.
My parents, and now my lover too.
Perhaps I was never meant to exist in this world.
Alec returned to Melody’s hospital room with my phone.
He had something to ask Faye.
Since waking up, Faye had noticed her parents‘ troubled expressions.

When they saw Melody awake, they didn’t immediately rush to her side, but instead sat nearby, sighing.
Mrs. Frost was also silent.
Faye wondered if I had suddenly appeared and said something to
them.
But that didn’t make sense. If I had shown up, my parents would have surely forced me to apologize to Faye.
After all. I had disappeared for so long without visiting her.
Moreover, Aunt Primrose and Uncle Zoran were standing outside the room. They wouldn’t leave until they got their money. Just as Faye was puzzled. Alec walked in.
Faye immediately noticed my phone in Alec’s hand.
She quickly thought of a plan to deal with the situation.
Faye covered her heart, her eyes reddening as she spoke to Alec.
“Is Melody still angry with me and refusing to see me?”
“I knew it. I’ve hurt Melody.”
“But I had no choice. I have a heart condition. If it wasn’t to stay alive, I would never have asked her to donate her heart.
Faye started crying on cue, her voice stirring pity.
But no one in the hospital room comforted her.
Faye sensed something was off. Usually at this point, everyone would console her and curse me for being ungrateful.
My parents glanced at Faye but didn’t move.

Alec asked Faye coldly.
“Did you really have an attack severe enough to need a heart transplant?”
Hearing this, Faye’s heart skipped a beat.
But she quickly regained her composure.
“Of course. You’ve seen my test results. Do you think I would fake something like that?”
“I’m not like your sister. I wouldn’t bribe people to fake results, let alone deceive anyone.”
“Did Melody say something to you?” Faye didn’t know why Alec suddenly asked this question, but in front of her parents, she had to stick to her story no matter what.
Alec walked up to Faye and held up his phone.
“Did you do this?”
