Chapter 88
Trevor suddenly found himself enjoying the present moment. He could sleep soundly through the night. And wake up to a face that put him at ease. He thought, I could set a time to talk to her. If she was fine with having a straightforward and ordinary life without any lofty ideas of romance, I could truly see her as his wife.
After waking up in the morning, Kylie had breakfast with Noreen, then remembered she had agreed to visit Kevin at the hospital.
She phoned Kevin again to apologize, assuring him that she would visit him tomorrow and noticed a trace of disappointment in his voice.
Kylie thought. Tll make up for it by buying a gift for Kevin when I go to the hospital tomorrow. After hanging up, she hurried to her adoptive mother’s house.
On her way, she stopped by a supermarket and bought a lot of things. Amanda had been waiting at home for some time. Hoard was also at home, busy studying
As soon as Kylie walked in, Amanda said directly, “You bought way too many clothes for Hoard yesterday. He’s still growing. so those clothes might not fit him for long. Plus, I saw the price tags–they’re too expensive. You’ve just started making money. Treat yourself to something nice first.”
Hoard had been getting an earful all morning. Not only was his mom upset, but he was regretting it too.
“Mom, I’m earning quite a bit now. A few clothes don’t really matter. Seeing my brother looking sharp makes the money and clothes worth it. Kylie comforted her.
I’m just afraid you’ll overlook yourself, Amanda said, knowing Kylie very well. Kylie always kept her difficulties to herself, never telling them to avoid causing worry. Earning that money wasn’t easy for Kylie.
“Sis, should we return them?” Hoard suggested, feeling he didn’t need to dress too nicely.
Kylie said to Hoard, “Since we bought them, you should wear them. Then she turned to Amanda. “Mom, I won’t neglect myself. Look at what I bought today.”
“I’ll make some of my favorite dishes for you two at lunch today Amanda said, taking the two large bags from Kylie’s hands. “Kylie, why don’t you take some of these homemade dishes to James when you visit him this afternoon on set? He’s been really busy lately and even said last night that he misses home–cooked meals.”
Kylie replied, “Sure, Mom”
If Hoard didn’t have so much homework to catch up on, she would have wanted to take him along as well.
She thought, James recently joined a new production as the fourth male lead. This is his first important supporting role, and he values it greatly. Who knows, maybe one day he’ll be the leading actor. In her view, his acting is far ahead of Chris’s. Kylie also bought James some brand–name clothes and shoes, ready to bring them over when she visits later.
After lunch. Kylie took Amanda’s homemade meal and headed to the film set where James was working.
By a stroke of luck, their crew was filming on location at Grandpa Xander’s house that day. It seemed like their tour guide or maybe an investor had some connections with Grandpa Xander So, she was familiar with the route. After a roughly fifty- minute drive, she arrived.
Once there, Kylie called James. When he answered, he told her to wait for ten minutes. James had just wrapped up his scenes, and with only night scenes left to film, he had some time to hang out with her nearby.

Kylie hadn’t been waiting long when a security guard recognized her.
“Are you Ms. Thompson?” the security guard asked as he approached.
Kylie said, “Yes.”
“You looked familiar just now, Ms. Thompson. Are you here to visit the estate? Mr. Woodward mentioned that you can come and go anytime you like. Feel free to drive in, the security guard said immediately.
When Mr. Woodward gives an order personally, everyone remembers it. Not everyone can enter, but Ms. Thompson is an
exception.
Kylie smiled and shook her head. Tm waiting for my brother to come out. He’s filming in there today.”
“Ms. Thompson’s brother? Who is he? I’ll let the manager know. The film crew is staying here tonight, so we can arrange a better room for your brother so he doesn’t have to share a small room with the crew,” the security guard said while already sending a text to the manager.
The manager replied in no time. “I have the list for the crew staying over, and there’s a James Thompson. That must be Ms. Thompson’s brother. I’ll make the arrangements now.”
Kylie was really impressed by the security guard’s speed. She was about to say it wasn’t necessary, but didn’t have the chance. ‘Alright. I would need to prepare some vintage gifts for Grandpa Xander: Kylie thought.
Thank you,” she said.
“No need to thank us, Ms. Thompson. It’s our job, the security guard replied promptly.
In less than two minutes, James came running out.
James noticed her. “Kylie!”
“Over here, bro,” she called.
James ran up to Kylie. “I have the whole afternoon free, little sis, Let’s go! You’ve never been here before, right? I’ve filmed. nearby before. There’s a beautiful, clear lake not far from here. I’ll take you there.”
“Ms. Thompson, you can’t drive to the lake. Would you like us to take you there on a motorcycle?” the security guard asked eagerly.
James was a little surprised. ‘Kylie was really good with people; she had just arrived, right? And she already had the guard being so helpful? He thought. I remember when their crew arrived, the guard was quite serious and had a lot of requirements for them. Even the assistant director was very polite to these staff.
Kylie thanked him. “No, thank you, we’ll just walk slowly!
“Alright, if you need anything, give us a call. There’re patrolling guards by the lake, and we’re all in touch, the security guard
said.
Kylie nodded with a smile. “Okay.”
Once the siblings were a bit further away, James said mysteriously. “If he weren’t twenty years older than you, I’d be worried he might have some inappropriate thoughts about you. He was being too attentive.”
“Noreen brought me here a little while ago to help Mr. Woodward examine some rare antiques, so many of them recognize me: Kylie explained.
She thought, James truly was an actor; he’d seen numerous play and had plenty of ideas!

James nodded. “Oh, I see. Let’s go; it’s only about a ten–minute walk.”

“Once I’m done with this movie, I’ll get you a bag. of the girls on set have this particular bag, and I’ve taken photos of it. I’ll buy one for you.” James thought his sister would look even better with that bag.
“Thanks, brother,” Kylie accepted. “We siblings really think alike. I’ve also got a gift for you; it’s in my car
James said, “It’s amazing now that my little sister is working and earning money. Even I, her brother, can receive gifts from
her!”
The two siblings walked further and further away until they emerged from the villa.
They were Austin and Chris. Austin happened to visit Chris, hoping to discuss some family matters face–to–face during his visit. They hadn’t expected to see Kylie. Seeing her laughing and talking with James, both of their expressions turned a bit
sour.
“Has she forgotten who her real brother is? She visits James but doesn’t even bother to look at me?” Chris felt a strange mix of emotions bubbling up.
