Chapter 36
My horse galloped through the dark forest, the cold wind whipping against my skin, but I barely felt it. My heart was racing faster than the hooves beneath me, my mind tangled in a mess of emotions. Tyler’s threat still rang in my ears.
“One month. End whatever you have going on with Killian. Otherwise, I will fight. I will kill. I will start another war until you’re mine again.”
I let out a frustrated breath, pushing the thought away. I didn’t have time for Tyler’s delusions. Right now, I just needed to get back to Killian.
When I reached the estate, my horse skidded to a stop. My eyes narrowed. Something was different. More guards stood outside this time—guards I didn’t recognize. Men dressed in dark uniforms, bigger, broader, and more disciplined than the ones who usually guarded the estate.
A strange unease crept down my spine.
Who were they? Why were they here?
I dismounted and walked toward the entrance. One of the guards stepped forward, bowing slightly.
“Luna, welcome home.”
I hesitated before nodding. “Thank you.”
My voice came out steady, but inside, my nerves were unraveling. I walked inside, the heavy doors shutting behind me. The moment I stepped into the grand hall, a woman from the kitchen staff spotted me.
Her eyes widened, and she rushed forward.
“Oh, Luna! Alpha Killian is expecting you in his office.”
My eyebrows furrowed. “What? Why?”
I had barely arrived. What could he possibly need me for this quickly?
The woman smiled nervously. “There’s someone here to meet you.”
A strange feeling settled in my stomach. “Who?”
She shook her head. “I don’t know, but Alpha said it’s urgent. Alpha Killian asked that you take a quick shower and get ready first. I will come to get you when it’s time.”
I exhaled, still confused but too drained to argue. “Fine.” I walked upstairs to my room, my mind still all over the place.
What was Killian planning now? And more importantly—who was waiting for me?
I took a quick shower, washing away the dirt and exhaustion from my ride.
Then, I dressed in something simple yet presentable—a dark blue gown that hugged my figure but didn’t feel too formal.
I stood in front of my mirror, staring at myself. I looked the same. But I didn’t feel the same. Not after everything I had learned. Not after discovering that my father wasn’t really my father. And most of all, that I was the rightful heir of Debbie’s dad. A knock on my door snapped me out of my thoughts.
I turned just as the kitchen maid from earlier peeked inside. “Luna, it’s time.”
I swallowed hard, forcing a nod. “Alright. Let’s go.”
I followed her through the long corridors, my heartbeat picking up with every step. When we finally reached Killian’s office, she stopped outside the door and gestured for me to go in. I took a deep breath, steadying myself. Then, I pushed the door open.
Killian sat behind his massive desk, dressed in his usual black attire, his golden eyes watching me carefully.
But I barely looked at him.
Because sitting on the leather couch across from him was a man I knew. A man whose face was painfully familiar. A man I had only ever seen from a distance. His lips curled into a smirk as his piercing gaze met mine.
“Hello, my daughter.”
