Chapter 54
The entire pack stood frozen, watching the confrontation unfold like a deadly game.
Dalla, one of the senior warriors, stepped forward, her stance rigid with authority. Her voice sliced through the tension like a blade. “You heard what the Luna said,” she snapped. “Take them out of here.”
Amaya’s breath hitched, her entire frame trembling. Then, as if the weight of reality had suddenly crushed her, her legs gave out beneath her. She collapsed onto the cold, unyielding ground, her sobs raw and broken. Each cry was a jagged piece of pain, cutting through the heavy silence that followed.
I forced myself to look away. The choice had been made. My heart clenched, but there was no room for doubt now. No turning back. This was the path I had chosen, and hesitation would only make it worse.
But Gregory wasn’t done.
His presence loomed over Amaya as he reached down, his fingers locking around her slender arm. His grip was firm—unyielding—less an offer of comfort and more a command. Amaya barely reacted, lost in her grief, her tears staining the earth beneath her.
Instead of soothing her, Gregory’s gaze smoldered with fury. His jaw tensed, nostrils flaring, as if barely restraining himself. Then, in a voice so low it was nearly swallowed by the wind, he murmured, “Stay strong.”
The words were an order, not reassurance. A demand.
Then his attention snapped to me.
His expression darkened, his lips curling into something cruel, something that sent a shiver down my spine. His fury wasn’t spent—it had simply found a new target.
“You are a worthless Luna.”
The words struck like a slap, cold and final.
The warriors stood still, the air thick with unspoken judgment, but no one dared to interfere. A slow, simmering silence settled over the clearing, pressing against my chest like an invisible weight.
But I refused to waver.
Even as the sting of his words sank into my bones.
Even as Amaya’s sobs echoed in the night.
Even as I felt my own resolve crack beneath the surface.
I had made my choice. And now, I had to live with it.
My breath hitched.
“A two-faced Luna,” he spat. “Unfit to rule. Unfit to lead. You are nothing but a mistake.”
My wolf stirred violently inside me, but I held my ground.
“Get. Out,” I growled.
Gregory ignored me, his eyes shifting to Tyler. “And you…” He let out a bitter chuckle. “You are the weakest Alpha I have ever seen.”
Tyler’s entire body tensed, his golden eyes narrowing dangerously. “You better watch what you say,” he warned. But Gregory wasn’t intimidated.
He took a step closer, his voice turning into a low, venomous hiss. “You kicked the wrong person out.”
The words hung in the air like poison. The crowd shifted uneasily, warriors glancing at each other. A cold shiver ran down my spine.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Tyler demanded.
Gregory’s smirk deepened. “You still have a traitor living in your estate,” he said slowly. “In your pack. A traitor determined to kill your two-faced Luna.”
My heartbeat picked up. My stomach twisted.
The whispers among the pack grew louder, uncertainty and paranoia spreading through them like a plague. I clenched my fists. “Enough with your riddles, Gregory!”
He just laughed falsely, his eyes glinting with something dangerous. “Your pack will crumble,” he sneered. “It will burn. And someone else will take over.”
Tyler let out a low growl. “Who?”
Gregory tilted his head, his gaze flickering between us like he was enjoying this. “That someone is also close to you.”
My chest tightened. I could hear the pounding of my own heartbeat in my ears. Gregory took a slow step back, smirking. “You will see,” he murmured, his voice sending a chill down my spine.
His gaze locked onto mine, and in a tone filled with mocking certainty, he whispered—
“The closest to you is the one who will betray you.”
And then, without another word, he turned on his heel.
Dragging Amaya with him.
