“I’ll wait for the results tomorrow, Ms. Lambert.” Ariana smiled. “Igor will return safe and sound once the pearls are in my hands.”
Gwen nodded and forced a smile. “Yes, I’ll have the pearls ready first thing tomorrow morning and deliver them to you.”
Ariana left Gwen’s room.
Gwen’s smile vanished as soon as the door closed. It was replaced by a look of anxiety and helplessness.
Those pearls had long been pawned during one of her gambling losses! How could she possibly reclaim them now?
“That brat! She’s so greedy!” Gwen muttered angrily to herself.
But things would spiral out of control if Ariana went to the police. Gwen had no choice but to call the man she had pawned the pearls to during her gambling days.
“Mr. Stone, remember the Aurora Pearls I pawned to you back then? I want to reclaim them now. How much do you want for them?”
“Oh, those pearls? They’re very good pearls. How about 80 million dollars? Pay that, and they’re yours again.” Ken hummed.
“80 million dollars?” Gwen nearly fainted. What kind of pearls would cost 80 million?
*Meanwhile, back in her room, Ariana sneered.
Those pearls were left by her mother as part of her dowry. They were antiques and were over a century old. Gwen was clueless about their value and pawned them for just a few hundred thousand. Over the years, the market value, of such pearls had only increased, and a matching pair like hers was now worth at least tens of millions.
She was curious to see how Gwen would scrape together the money.
Gwen hadn’t slept a wink that night, consumed by worry about Igor. When she went downstairs, she saw Ariana lounging on the couch. Gwen forced herself to remain calm “Ari, will Igor really be back tonight?”
“Why are you in such a rush, Ms. Lambert? The pearls and the ten million dollars you promised haven’t been delivered yet. Oh, and don’t forget the car. You’d better pick that up for me today. I’m not one to go easy on people. “Ariana left no room for negotiation.
Despite her resentment, Gwen had no choice but to nod. “I already ordered the car last night. As for the ten million… I’ll head to the bank and transfer it to you now. But about the pearls…”
“The pearls are my mother’s keepsake.” Ariana narrowed her eyes coldly. “Don’t tell me you can’t find them.”

Gwen reassured herself that the upcoming banquet would yield generous gifts. Selling those gifts would help her recover some money, and she could plece together the funds for the pearls after the event.
Seeing that Gwen couldn’t produce the pearls immediately Ariana relented. “I can give you a few more days, Ms. Lambert. But words mean nothing. Let’s draft up a deal.”
