By this time, Emily had sent all the material for the next day’s meeting to Brian’s phone. Brian had no choice but to return to his seat and begin reviewing the documents on his phone.
Suddenly, Ariana began to cry out as if trapped in a nightmare. “Don’t hit me! Stop! Stop hitting me!”
Brian immediately got up and walked to her bedside. He wasn’t good at comforting people, but he instinctively. took her hand in his. His voice softened as he said, “I’m here. I’m right here. No one will dare hurt you.”
Hearing his words, Ariana seemed to calm down. Watching her, a flicker of heartache flashed through him. After all, she was just a young woman. What has happened today must have terrified her.
As he leaned closer, intending to brush a stray lock of hair from her forehead, Ariana suddenly raised both arms in her sleep.
Brian froze, startled.
Then she mumbled clearly, “Damn it! Who do you think you are? I’ll kill you, you bastard!”
“Brian Lodge, you son of a b*tch!”
“Brian Lodge, I’m going to strangle you!”
“Go to hell, Brian!”
Initially, Brian had been reviewing the meeting documents on his phone. But before he realized it, he found himself searching: Why do patients talk in their sleep after anesthesia?
But as Ariana’s insults grew increasingly colorful, his patience frayed. By the end of her tirade, any inclination he *had to review meeting materials had vanished entirely.
By this point, he was starting to suspect she was doing it on purpose.
The night shift nurse cautiously pushed open the door, Intending to apologize for her earlier behavior.
But before she could say a word, Brian said coldly, “Get out”
“Mr. Lodge, your secretary brought this supper for you,” the nurse explained, placing the food on the table beside him as quietly as possible.
Seeing this, Brian asked, “She’s been mumbling nonsense. Is that because she was under general anesthesia?”
The nurse froze, confused.
“General anesthesia?”
“Wasn’t she under general anesthesia?”
“No, sir. The procedure was minor–just local anesthesia. She didn’t receive general anesthesia at all.”
Brian’s expression turned dark. His gaze snapped to Ariana who lazily stretched and let out a yawn before opening her eyes.
“Oh? Mr. Lodge? Why are you here?” she asked nonchalantly.
Grinding his teeth, Brian growled, “Ariana! Torrey!”
For the past ten minutes, she had been hurling insults at him in her sleep. He had assumed it was a side effect of anesthesia. But no–it had all been an act!

Ariana leaned back against the pillows and replied calmly, Saved me? Oh, I don’t care to claim that. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be in this state in the first place.”
