Chapter 6
Zoe’s POV
Sierra replied with her tone full of
disbelief, “How could you say that? Aaron is your mate!”
“Not anymore.” I muttered then hung up.
My phone started ringing almost
immediately and I saw that it was Hannah. I didn’t pick up.
My phone vibrated and I saw a voice message from her, so I played it.
“Zoe, you need to let Aaron move on since you’ve rejected him. Tell your wolf to tell his wolf that it’s over between you two!”
It sounded like she was crying, but I didn’t
care.
His wolf would gradually accept that I was not coming back. From there, he would accept my rejection and move on.
I placed my phone back on the bedside table and rushed out of the bedroom. I
needed to go on that run, especially since I could feel Kira being sad because of what
she heard about our ex–mate.
“Don’t worry, Kira. We’ll find another mate.” I comforted her in my head.
“I know. It just hurts, especially since Jake loves us so much.” She murmured.
Jake was Aaron’s wolf and he always
showered us with affection whenever
Aaron was in wolf form.
“Aaron stopped shifting into his wolf form around you because Jake loves us, but Aaron wants Hannah.” She added, sounding down.
I gasped, “So that was why! Well, he can now have Hannah since I’ve rejected him.”
“Hey, are you going out for a run?” Alec’s voice pulled my attention away from my conversation with Kira.
I glanced at him as he stood up from the couch in the living room and answered,
“Yeah, want to tag along?”
“Yeah!” He answered me as he grinned.
Teddy walked into the living room and
smiled, “Did I hear you say you’re going for a run?”
I nodded, “Yeah.”
“I want in too!” She exclaimed in excitement.
“Me too!” Three kids that were watching TV exclaimed.
There was a boy and two girls, all about the age of eight. We usually go through our first shift at five years old, but some late bloomers have it at thirteen or even fifteen.
I went through my first shift at eight years old, and seeing these kids reminded me of how it felt. Warm and comforting.
My lips stretched into a smile, “Sure, you can all come along.”

“Awesome!” The boy exclaimed while the two girls giggled.
Alec glanced at them with a stern look on his face, “But remember, kids. You need to stay close.”
“Yes, Beta!” They answered him in unison.
We made our way out of the pack house then stripped out of our clothes, but leaving our expendable clothes on.
Alec was the first to shift since he was Beta, followed by me and Teddy then the kids.
Alec led the run and we followed him.
The wind brushed through my red fur and I enjoyed the feeling.
I couldn’t help, but howl.
Teddy‘ s howl followed then Alec and the kids‘ howl.
We heard a loud howl and I turned
my
head to the right to see Alpha Jack’s brown
wolf running towards us. He joined us and led us around the woods.
We never had pack runs like this in the Blue Moon pack, so that was why I used to schedule runs for Aaron and I.
I had so much fun that night.
It was soon next week and I was running through the woods alone in the evening. I would go for runs every night since I returned and it felt amazing.
A loud growl came from behind me, making my heart race in fear.
This was how I was attacked when I was at the Blue Moon pack! I couldn’t let that happen again, so I increased my pace.
It was only when Kira spoke up that I calmed down.
“Calm down, it’s someone that you know that’s trying to catch up.”

“Who is it?” I asked her just as I stopped running.
Kira muttered, “I don’t know, he’s too far
away
for me to detect his scent well, but from what I can smell, he’s familiar.”
I was about to reply when I saw a large gray wolf stop in front of me and I recognized him instantly.
I was about to run away when he shifted into his human form and grabbed my ear.
“Shift!” He commanded in his Alpha voice, and I couldn’t help, but shift back to my human form.
“Aaron, what’s the meaning of this?! Why are you here?!” I yelled at him as I pulled away from him.
He stared at me with his dark eyes and he had a blank expression on his face.
His voice was cold as he asked me, “Why did you leave? Why did you reject me?”
I held my head up as I answered him in a form tone of voice, “We’ve not been mates since Hannah took over as Beta, so I was
just doing what was right.”
He scoffed, “Doing what’s right? Sierra called you and told you what happened to me and to Jake, but you didn’t care.
When I didn’t reply, I saw pain in his eyes as he added, “How could you do that to me?”
