Travis’s hand trembled as he caught the
necklace.
“How could this… how could this happen?” he stammered.
Jasmin, looking pitiful, stepped forward and took Travis’s hand. “Travis, since Sheena took the initiative to break off the engagement, you don’t have to worry about the old promise between our families. Besides, there’s more than one daughter in the Brooks family.”
“And didn’t you promise me? As long as I wasn’t married, you would never be with Sheena. Now that Sheena has chosen to leave, maybe she’s trying to make things easier for us…” Jasmin continued.
“No!” Travis immediately refused.
Before Jasmin could finish, he shook off
her hand.

Realizing her forceful action had upset him, Jasmin began to sob softly. “Do you not like me anymore, Travis?”
Looking at the tears in her eyes, Travis immediately rushed to comfort her, “I didn’t mean that.”
“It’s just… I promised Sheena that if she agreed to go to the Wilson family for you, I would marry her.”
“But now she has actively decided she doesn’t want to marry you,” Jasmin gently retorted.
Seizing the opportunity, she threw herself into Travis‘ s arms and continued, “She even used the Wilson family against us, saying that if we don’t agree to cancel the engagement, she won’t go to the Wilson family at all. If you don’t believe me, then you can ask my brother.”
She gave a subtle glance toward Stephen who was still lying in the hospital bed.

engagement?” Travis asked, his pupils dilated in disbelief.
Jasmin walked over to Stephen, wearing her usual innocent smile on her face, but the words she spoke were chillingly unfamiliar as she whispered, “Brother, you know how much I like Travis. If you ruin this for me, I’ll make sure Dad punishes you severely.”
She deliberately glanced at Stephen’s still slightly swollen eyes before continuing, “Brother, you don’t want to lose your sight, do you?”
A cold shiver ran down Stephen’s spine. He had never realized that the sister he had so dearly loved for years could speak such words.
But then, Jasmin quickly changed her tone, her expression softening. “I was just joking. Don’t worry, Brother. I’m sure you’ll help me, right?”

Stephen snapped out of his daze, feeling as though he had just woken from a
nightmare.
Meanwhile, Travis, had gotten closer, his whole face trembling with rage. “Stephen, tell me has your family really agreed to break off the engagement?”
With Amanda still in a coma and knowing how doting Christopher was on Jasmin, Stephen was certain that their father would
consent to the termination of the
engagement.
Sighing, Stephen nodded reluctantly.
Seeing this, Jasmin smiled with satisfaction, grabbing Travis‘ s arm and shaking it gently. “Travis, you heard him. You won’t have to force yourself to be with Sheena just because of an old promise.

However, Travis had lost all sense of clarity. He was no longer listening to Jasmin’s words, his attention completely consumed by the necklace in his hand. Blankly staring at it, he muttered to himself, “How could this happen? How could this happen? Sheena always wanted to marry me… She only ever wanted to marry me!”
After sending Travis and Jasmin off, Stephen immediately left the hospital
room.
Even though his ribs still ached, he couldn’t afford to waste a minute. He
called for a driver to take him to the Wilson family’s house.
Along the way, Stephen‘ s mind raced with thoughts of what his reunion with Sheenal might be like. He wondered if the Wilson family would refuse to let her go and how. he would handle that. He also feared that
Sheena might have been tortured by the Wilson family, leaving her badly hurt. If

that were the case, he had already planned to contact a hospital–he couldn’t let his sister suffer like she had twelve years ago, leaving her with a permanent disability.
