Chapter 18
What Stephen never expected was that he couldn’t even get past the gates of the Wilson family.
For some reason, as soon as they heard he was from the Brooks family, the security guard at the gate immediately pulled out a baton, ready to strike.
“Our young lady said that if any Brooks. family members come, we’ll hit them–one for one, two for two. Even if we kill them, she’ll take care of the funeral expenses!” the guard declared.
Stephen was pushed out with blows. If it hadn’t been for the driver stepping in front of him to block the guards, his ribs might have been broken again.
Grinding his teeth in anger, Stephen knew full well that not just him, but even Christopher or Amanda would be unable to enter unless the Wilson family voluntarily

opened the door.
Suddenly, an idea struck him. He quickly dialed a number. After a few rings the call was connected, but the background was filled with noise.
After leaving the Wilson house, Stephen found Travis in a bar. He had assumed Travis would be with Jasmin, but instead, he found him alone at the bar, drunk beyond measure. The once handsome and noble image of the young heir had vanished, and he looked like a drowned
rat.
“Sheena, Sheena…” Travis kept muttering.
Stephen had witnessed Travis‘ actions. many times before, making Sheena cry in silence due to his reckless behavior toward
Jasmin.
At that time, his heart had been entirely biased toward Jasmin. He had even tried to persuade Sheena to give up the
engagement and let them be together. He

had believed that Travis loved Jasmin, but was only bound by the engagement set by the older generation. But now, seeing Travis in such a pitiful state, still calling out Sheena’s name, Stephen couldn’t contain his anger. Without thinking, he ordered the bartender to pour a glass of ice water and splashed it onto Travis‘ s face.
The shock from the cold water brought Travis back to his senses for a brief
moment. Only then could Stephen sit down and speak with him properly.
“Who do you really like? Sheena or Jasmin?”
Stephen’s blunt question left Travis at a loss for words. He couldn’t give a clear
answer.
“If you like Jasmin, then this is the best outcome. You can break off the engagement with Sheena and marry Jasmin. But if you…”
“I won’t break off my engagement with

Sheena! I promised I would marry her,”
Travis cut him off.
Stephen was even angrier. “You know you’re supposed to marry Sheena, so why are you being ambiguous with Jasmin? What do you think the Brooks family is?”
Travis pulled at his hair in agony. “I don‘ t know… I used to love Sheena the most. Back when she was sent to the countryside, I was the only one who stayed by her side. She was completely dependent on me. At that time, I really wanted to marry her.”
He took a deep breath, and continued, “But later, when I met Jasmin, I realized that Sheena was only interested in my family background, the assets of the Flores family
“What did you say?” Stephen suddenly interrupted. “How could Sheena be that kind of person?”
Travis looked up, his eyes filled with confusion. “Even back in the countryside, I

thought something was off. According to the Brooks family tradition, every young member gets an independent bank account. after their first birthday, with money deposited regularly. It should have been enough for a child to live on. But Sheena always acted so frugal, and if I didn’t visit her often and bring her food, she would barely survive.”
“I even asked her where the money went. But she always claimed she had no money. How could that be? Even if the amount wasn‘ t large, there’s no way it could leave her starving, right?”
“It was only later that Jasmin told me that Sheena claimed to have no money just to gain my sympathy. She was afraid that if she wasn’t favored in the Brooks family, my family would cancel the marriage. That’s why she pretended to be poor in front of me,” he explained.

“What did you say?” Travis spat in disbelief.
Stephen smiled wryly as he responded, “It was only a few days ago that I found out that after we sent Sheena to the countryside, my father personally closed all of Sheena’s bank accounts.”
“Actually, I should thank you. If it weren’t for you, Sheena might not have survived,” he added.
“How could that be?” Surprised, Travis. stood up and accidentally knocked over the table. The sharp screech of the table leg on the floor filled the room.
“Did Uncle Christopher go mad? Sheena was only eight years old! You left her alone. in the countryside and didn’t give her a single penny. If it weren’t for the fact that I happened to be visiting a farm near there. with my grandmother and ran into Sheena, she might have died there!”
As Travis spoke, Stephen’s head sank
