- 11.
Seeing my determination and anger, Jack finally lost all his momentum. He looked at me with red eyes, then turned and fled.
As the door closed, I felt as if a thousand–pound weight had been lifted off me, and I collapsed
I didn’t give myself any time to catch my breath and immediately started taking action.
First, I deleted all of Jack’s contact information.
on the floor.
Then, I packed a few changes of clothes and necessities, and moved to a vacant house under my parents‘ name that night.
I thought that only my parents and I knew about this house, so that scumbag wouldn’t be able to bother me anymore.
After settling in, the first thing I did was contact a lawyer to prepare for the divorce lawsuit.
I told the lawyer that I wanted to fight for my rights and that I wouldn’t back down an inch.
I knew this would be a long battle, but I was prepared.
However, Sophia suddenly showed up at my door.
11
“Emily Johnson, you homewrecker!” Her opening words were so harsh.
Hearing this, I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly and shake my head: “Sophia, can you please understand the situation? My marriage with Jack has come to this point entirely because of his betrayal and your shamelessness. I am the victim here.”
Her expression changed slightly, but she quickly regained that arrogant look: “Hmph, you think you’re so noble? Let me tell you, Jack only loves me. He will come back to me sooner or later. And you, you’re just a passerby in his life.”
I chuckled lightly, my eyes full of disdain: “Oh? Well, congratulations then. Whoever wants that dirty man can have him, I certainly don’t. If you’re so confident, why bother coming to trouble me, the ‘homewrecker‘?”
My words hit her soft spot like a heavy punch.
Her face turned ashen, and just as she was about to explode, she was interrupted by a series of urgent knocks on the door.
Outside, it was Jack’s familiar yet strange voice, carrying a hint of anxiety and fatigue.
Jack appeared, his face as pale as a ghost, his body reeking of alcohol, though it was mostly covered by perfume.
Sophia tried to pull him away, but Jack slapped her across the face instead, shouting: “Get lost!”
Sophia covered her face, gave me a resentful look, and turned to leave.
As for Jack, as soon as he saw me, his eyes suddenly lit up.
“Sophia said you were here… I’ve finally found you.”
“Emily, I was wrong, I was really wrong.”
I took a step back, looking at him coldly: “Jack, you’re too late. There’s no possibility between us anymore. If you’re here to sign the divorce apers, you’re welcome; if not, please leave now, or I’ll call security.”
He was stunned, seemingly not expecting me to be so resolute.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but not knowing where to start.
Finally, he could only lower his head and nod silently: “Okay, I’ll sign.”
He picked up the pen, his hand trembling slightly.
“Sign it,” I urged.
He finally signed his name.
After signing, he stood up, his eyes slightly red, as if tears were about to fall.
He looked at me once, then turned and walked towards the door without saying another word.
Outside, heavy rain was pouring down.
He stood in the rain, letting the rainwater wash over his body, as if trying to punish himself in this way.
I stood by the window, drawing the curtains, shutting out everything from the outside world.
I knew that this rain would stop, and he would leave my world, becoming part of the past for good.
The next morning, the rain finally stopped.
1 opened the curtains, took a deep breath of fresh air, feeling an unprecedented lightness and freedom in my heart.
