But now, Theodore realized how wrong he had been.
He turned his cold gaze on Rhea.
“I’ve been married to Faye for years. I know who she is. She’s nothing like you. She never cared about my money and she would never stoop to such schemes.”
“Rhea, you pretend to care about Faye in front of others, calling her ‘aunt,‘ but behind her back, you speak of her like this. The real hypocrite here is you.”
“Now I understand. The one I truly love is Faye. Everything I’ve done for you, I’ve already done. From now on, there’s only an uncle–nephew bond between us.”
“I’m going to find Faye now. You go back on your own. Don’t ever let me hear those wor again. And remember, the heart you carry belongs to someone else.”
With that, he turned on his heel and walked away.
Rhea still tried her usual trick, clutching her chest and pretending to feel unwell, but Theodore didn’t look back.
He ran home like a man possessed, his mind repeating Rhea’s words but clinging to one hope:
That Fave was only plaving a cruelinke. When be reached home cho would be there waiting

That Faye was only playing a cruel joke. When he reached home, she would be there, waiting
for him.
But it was all wishful thinking.
Faye’s belongings were gone and all that was left was a signed divorce agreement.
The donation certificate, hidden in his insurance, was a stark reminder of the lie that had begun her downfall.
And then a USB drive.
Inside were two video clips.
The first was a conversation between him and Dominic.
The second was a video of him and Rhea on the balcony. Theodore’s face drained of color. Trembling, he dialed Dominic.
“Help me check if Faye had any surgeries today… anywhere.”
“What surgery? Didn’t you have her replace her artificial heart today?”
Theodore ran a hand through his hair, his voice breaking.
“Faye didn’t come. She knew about what happened before. She had someone remove the heart… and send it to me… Dominic, I’m terrified. Please, check for me.”
Dominic was silent for a long moment before he sighed.
“Theodore, the last time I heard you say you were scared was when Rhea found out about your heart. Now, it’s about Faye. She didn’t cause you trouble. She chose this, chose to leave. Shouldn’t you feel relieved? Why are you scared now? Face it… you’ve fallen for her.”
“I told you before, Rhea isn’t as innocent as you think. If she were, why would she steal someone else’s boyfriend? She couldn’t even wait half a day. She made you replace Faye’s heart with hers and you, foolishly, let her lead you around by the nose.”
“I’ll do my best to help you but be prepared. If I were Faye and knew all this, whether alive or dead, I wouldn’t want to see you again.”
After hanging up, Theodore stood frozen, staring at the empty room. His heart felt just as
empty.
His gaze fell on the divorce agreement and he buried his face in his hands, letting out a strangled cry.
A few days later, I woke up in an unfamiliar room.
Before me stood Phoebe Roswell, my best friend, her face a portrait of worry. Her eyes were red from crying and as soon as she saw I was awake, she let out a relieved sob.
“Baby, you’re finally awake. I thought I messed up the surgery and you’d never wake up.”
4 Seeing the confusion on my face, she quickly rushed to explain.
“You’re right. That bastard Theodore really sent someone to track you down, but don’t

worry. Before he could find you, I got you out of there. We’re in a small fishing town, far from Leavenworth. He won’t find us here. Just rest.”
I sighed deeply, my voice barely above a whisper.
“Why bother saving me? Living or dying, it’s all the same.”
Phoebe cried again, her voice breaking.
