I was stunned and didn’t respond
immediately.
Javier continued, “You fell into depression

of accusation.
I couldn’t help but laugh and without a word, I turned around and walked away. As soon as I reached the corner, I bumped into Danielle.
Her eyes were burning with anger and she raised her hand to slap me.
I dodged her hand and slapped her in return. Slap! The sound echoed loudly.
I harshly said, “Danielle, this slap is the price for being the mistress back then. I have no interest in getting involved in your love drama with Javier anymore, so stop

bothering me.”
“Otherwise, I still have the video of your affair. I’ll post it online so everyone can see what the ‘flower‘ of Atlanta University is really like behind the scenes!” With that, I turned and left without looking back at
either of them.
Back in the ballroom, everyone was dancing. Hugo stood off to the side, alone.
When he saw me, he smiled, bent slightly and extended his right hand and said, “May I have the honor of a dance with Miss
Sommerset?”
Under the warm yellow lights, I felt my heart race a little faster. I placed my hand in his and we danced together in the center of the ballroom.
The close proximity, the firmness of his muscles beneath his suit and the sheer masculine energy made my head spin.
By the time I got home, I frowned to myself, I had agreed to go on another date

with Hugo.
I originally returned to the country to appease my parents and then head off on more travels. Now, it seemed my plans would have to change.
However, I never imagined I’d end up trending on social media. It all started with the video of Danielle bullying the shop assistant at the LX handbag store, which went viral.
Then, a young nurse left a comment online. She claimed Danielle was a home- wrecker who forced the legitimate wife into a miscarriage.
More people chimed in, saying they’d seen her being picked up by luxury cars multiple times. Eventually, someone even dug up information on Javier. His company’s reputation quickly plummeted.
Someone claiming to be an employee at Sommerset Tower revealed that Javier was divorced. He had been childhood

years and the tower was even named after
her.
Everything fell apart when Danielle came into the picture and broke up their marriage. One exposé after another flooded in, each rumor more shocking than the
last.
Even I wasn’t so clueless as to miss that this
was an attack from Javier’s rivals. This kind of thing had happened before and back then, he was overwhelmed.
I quietly helped him navigate the situation, calling on my connections to smooth
things over. I wasn’t sure if Danielle could do the same this time.
But none of that was my concern anymore. What I was really worried about now was my date with Hugo. I waited until noon but didn’t hear from him.
Just when I thought he might cancel, my phone rang, “Mandy, I’m really sorry. I’m

not feeling well, so can we reschedule our date for a few days later?” Hugo’s voice was somewhat hoarse.
I asked for the hospital’s address, had our housekeeper prepare some soup and headed over. But as soon as I arrived at the hospital, I ran into Javier.
His face was as pale as a sheet, clutching his stomach in obvious pain, I knew he has a stomachache. My first thought was, where was Danielle? Why wasn’t she here with him?
And Javier saw me too. His eyes were red and he came toward me, bending over to speak in a hoarse voice, “Mandy, it hurts so much… Can you hold me?”
Back then, whenever he got hurt or sick, I’d wrap my arms around his waist, whispering soothing words into his ear. But that was then and this was now.
I took a few steps back, putting some distance between us. “Sorry, I’m here to see

Javier looked anxious and he asked in a panic, “Is it Hugo? Are you with him now?”
