Chapter 3
Soon after I left the group chat, Antonio called me. I answered reluctantly.
“Grace, come over immediately,” he ordered. I frowned.
“What do you mean?” I asked impatiently.
“You know it. I’ll wait for you at the same place.”
“What for?”
“You’re gonna apologize to Sandra.”
I sneered. I knew it was about Sandra.
“Are you crazy? Why should I?”
“You left the group chat immediately after Sandra joined in. Have you ever thought about Sandra’s feelings?”
Antonio’s tone was blunt and aggressive.
“I don’t want Sandra to get hurt. I like her. I wanna marry her.
“She’s innocent. But people could take her as the other woman. because you left the group chat. That’s unfair.”
I thought I wouldn’t feel anything whatever he said or did.
But a dull pain ran through my heart. I took a deep breath and clenched my phone so tightly that my hand was shaking.

“Antonio, I didn’t do anything. I even wished you happiness. What else do you want from me?!”
Tears were about to come out of my eyes. I held them back, but my voice betrayed me.
Antonio was silent for a while.
Then, he continued, “Grace, I’ll let it slide this time. But remember. Sandra is innocent. Don’t take it out on her or hurt
her.”
He hung up before I could respond.
Sitting on the carpet, I shivered all over.
I looked up at the photo of my deceased mom on the nightstand. She was looking at me affectionately.
Suddenly, I cried out loud, trotted over, and held the photo tightly.
I pressed my face against the cold glass to get closer to my
mom.
She seemed sad, heartbroken for her daughter;
I wiped my eyes. I didn’t want my mom to feel sad for me
After my mom’s death anniversary, I’d leave Vertway City forever with the things she left to me.

But I didn’t use her room.
Instead, I moved into a guest room.
The houseworker got me a cold and damp quilt.
I decided to keep my clothes on and curled up to sleep.
There were only a few days to go before my departure, anyway.
I’d tough it out. Then, it’d be all over.
The next morning, I got up and went downstairs.
The table, where my mom’s photo and the tributes had been, became a mess.
My mom’s photo was thrown onto the floor. The frame was broken. There were shoe marks all over the photo.
My mom had been smiling. But now, it was as if she was crying. miserably.
The tributes for my mom scattered across the floor. Sandra’s pet dog was enjoying them.
Standing aside, Sandra was laughing and clapping her hands.
Watching this scene, I felt my blood rush to my head.
I couldn’t stand it for a single minute.
Like a lunatic, I grabbed a vase and smashed it at the dog.
Scared, the dog ran away. Sandra screamed. The broken vase scratched her arm.

“Grace! What are you doing? How could you hurt your sister?”
When my dad spoke, Sandra ran into his arms tearfully.
“Dad, Grace tried to kill me!”
“Grace, you’ve gone too far!” I couldn’t take it anymore.
“Can’t you see it? She threw away the tributes for my mom and ruined my mom’s photo!”
I was trembling all over. Tears welled up nonstop. I felt sorry for my mom. How could Sandra treat her that way? I hoped my dad could do something if he had ever cared about my mom at all.
However, he looked at the mess on the floor and frowned. “That’s not an excuse to hurt your sister.”
“Dad-”
“Grace, your mom has been gone for a long time. You don’t get to make a fuss because of a dead person.”
“Dad, my puppy knocked over the tributes. I meant to apologize to Grace, but she rushed over to smash the vase at me as soon as she came downstairs.” Sandra said in a low voice, her face pale.
Holding her bleeding arm high, she looked at my dad pitifully. “Dad, maybe my mom and I should move out.”
“The dog is an animal. Are you?!” Glaring at me, my dad suddenly smacked me across my face.
Shocked, I stared at him. He seemed astonished, too.
