“Hey, Evalina, you made it,” Rosa noticed Evalina and said. All eyes were on Evalina and the looks were intense, making her skin crawl.
Is Rosa seriously trying to hook me up with this guy because Hugo’s dumping me?‘ Evalina thought after taking a look at all this and started to head for the door.
“Evalina!” Rosa caught up, grabbing her arm. “What’s the big idea Mr. Gains is right here. He just said they’d give us 100 thousand if you tied the knot with him, plus more perks down the line.“.
Evalina gave a bitter laugh. “Mom, are you really selling me off for cash?”
“How can you even say that?” Rosa feigned hurt, wiping her eyes. If things were peachy with Hugo, would I even bring this up? You couldn’t hold onto him, and if we don’t find you another guy, how are we going to manage?”
“Can’t I just take care of us?” Evalina asked.
“You? You’ve been living it up with the Hayes family, never lifting a finger. What makes you think you can support us?” Rosa looked skeptical.
Evalina sighed. Even her parent always thought she was useless. No wonder Hugo and his family didn’t respect her. She knew arguing was pointless.
“Forget about it,” she said, turning to leave.
“You…” Rosa started, but Evalina was already out the door.
Just then, Evalina’s phone rang. It was her best friend, Vanessa Reed. “Evalina, I’ve only been away for a bit, and I hear you’re divorced already?”
Evalina winced at Vanessa’s loud voice and covered her ear. “Did WWalden spill the beans?”
Vanessa sounded angry. “Yeah, girl! You got married and didn’t even invite me?”
Evalina rolled her eyes and sighed. When she tied the knot with Hugo, he wanted to keep things on the down–low. Evalina, head over heels, didn’t breathe a word to anyone. If it weren’t for her family finding out eventually, they’d still be in the dark.
“I didn’t want you stressing while you were away. I’m good now, Evalina said, trying to sound cheerful.
“Wait up, I’m coming over to give you a hard time!” Vanessa replied.
“Wait, you’re back?” Evalina’s eyes widened in surprise as she got up immediately.
An hour later, they met up and hugged like there was no tomorrow.
“I’ve missed you like crazy… But seriously, where’s Mr. Wonderful? I need to see if he’s as hot as you said, hot enough to make you elope,” Vanessa said.
Evalina was at a loss for words–Vanessa had her number. Hugo was a looker, alright, and Evalina was head over heels, diving headfirst into the Hayes family drama.
