Chapter 25
Walden always felt bad thinking about Evalina’s situation. He felt for her and was more than happy to help.
Evalina chuckled. “Everyone makes mistakes when picking partners. Once I’m divorced, we’ll just go our separate ways.”
“Totally. You’ll definitely find a better guy. We’ve got some cool guys here. If you’ve got a type, just let me know and I’ll introduce you,” Walden offered.
Evalina hesitated. “Nah, I don’t want to think about getting remarried right now.” She hadn’t even finalized the divorce yet, and he was already talking about the next guy.
A better man? Evalina used to think there was no one better than Hugo. But now? Maybe in Havenbay, there wasn’t anyone with a higher status, but status didn’t mean he was a good guy.
Right now, Evalina wasn’t into any guys. She just wanted to focus on getting back what she’d lost.
Hugo tossed and turned all night long. Evalina’s face was stuck in his head like a stubborn tune he couldn’t get rid of. Even when he drifted off, he was back in the bedroom with her, laughing and messing around.
It was seriously messing with his head. He couldn’t help but wonder–Was it just that one kiss that did it? Or had it been too long since he’d been with a woman?
He didn’t even think about how that cake at Olive’s might’ve had something to do with it. He was just ticked at himself for having such a weird dream. His mood was so sour that when he got to the office, the employees gave him a wide berth.
“Hey Hugo, we sent the deposit. This company signed on to handle the design for Tranquil Heights. They’ll have the plans whipped up in a month,” Jasper said, dropping the contract on Hugo’s desk.
Hugo remembered he hadn’t looked at the plans yet. “Leave the plans with me. I’ll check them out later,” he told Jasper.
“Didn’t I show them to you last time?” Jasper asked, looking confused.
“I didn’t really look closely,” Hugo admitted. He was curious about what kind of design had Jasper singing its praises so much.
“I know you’re skeptical. But I sent a draft to the judges for an architecture competition. They were blown away. Some even think it looks like the work of a legendary designer who disappeared years ago. They’re all buzzing about meeting this designer for an interview,” Jasper explained, getting more excited as he talked.
Hugo furrowed his brow. “The legendary designer from back then?” he asked, sounding intrigued.
That mysterious designer named Fate. They used to lead some amazing projects but then vanished. Now people are wondering if Fate’s back. If it really is Fate, their return would be huge news!” Jasper said, his eyes widening at the thought.
Hugo picked up the drafts. “Is Fate a woman?” he wondered out loud, his brow furrowing slightly as he studied the designs.
“Why?” Jasper asked, surprised.
“The design looks like it’s by a female. The cursive English letters–men usually don’t write like that,” Hugo explained, pointing at the designs.
Jasper couldn’t see any differences, but seeing Hugo’s serious look, he said, “If that’s true, a famous female architect would definitely cause a sensation. We’ve never had one before.”
