Chapter 32
Hugo’s face scrunched up. ‘Evalina had some serious pull. Even after they split, Bramwell’s soft spot for her made Hugo, his own grandkid, feel a bit jealous.
“And if you two do split for good, I’m changing my will. Evalina’s getting a piece of my inheritance.”
“Grandpa,” Hugo finally said, “you want to leave her your money? She’s only been part of the Hayes family for three years.”
“You ungrateful punk!” Bramwell lost it, grabbing stuff from the table and chucking it at Hugo. “How did I end up with a kid like you? Evalina’d be a great granddaughter. You can’t even protect her. I should’ve kicked you outta the family a long time ago.
“And now, I’m changing my will. I was gonna leave you something, but forget it. Your share’s going to Evalina. It’s my money, and I’ll do what I want with it!”
Hugo got the boot.
Evalina had no clue about any of this. All she knew was that Hugo left the Hayes mansion looking pretty ticked.
Later, she heard Bramwell had gotten really mad and even smacked Hugo on the head. She chuckled at that, but inside, she felt warm.
Bramwell had always been good to her. Too bad about the breakup. But maybe, when her baby came, she could let Bramwell know. Her determination to keep the baby grew stronger.
Meanwhile, Olive looked at Hugo as he dropped her off, her face full of concern. “Hugo, is everything cool? You seem off.”
“Nah, I’m good. Just go rest,” Hugo said, shutting down the conversation.
“But…” Olive started, but Ilugo was already gone.
Olive clenched her fists. ‘Evalina… it’s all her fault. She must’ve teamed up with Bramwell to embarrass me today. But no worries, the divorce is coming soon. Evalina would be left with nothing and one day, I’ll make her pay double for the humiliation.‘
Evalina hit up the apartment Walden had set up for her the next day. It wasn’t big, but it was super clean, and Evalina had been digging it. Living on her own meant she had to handle everything herself, so a smaller place was way easier to manage.
“Move in today. If you need anything, just let me know,” Walden said with a smile.
“Thanks, Walden. It’s great,” Evalina replied.
“Let’s roll to the supermarket and grab some basics, I bet it’s a hassle to bring stuff from your ex’s place,” Walden suggested.
Evalina nodded. The big furniture at her ex’s wouldn’t fit here anyway. She had had to leave behind the sofa and bed she had picked out with care. And the fancy everyday items the butler used to buy were too posh for this place.
They headed downstairs to the grocery store and picked up some stuff. Walden naturally took most of the bags. But he didn’t notice Jasper and Hugo were looking at them.
Jasper nudged Hugo. “Hey, Hugo, isn’t that your wife over there? I just saw her shopping with some guy who’s really looking out for her.” They had come to a small company called Elite Architectural Design to ask the CEO about this brilliant designer. But before they even got inside, they had spotted this scene.
