Chapter 34
Evalina shook her head. “Nah, never seen them before.”
Walden nodded. Evalina had been MIA for a couple of years, tied up in marriage.
He explained, “I was bout to lay into them, but that’s Hugo. You may not know him. He’s the heir to the Hayes fortune, a real big shot. No use arguing with someone like that. They got the cash and clout to squash anyone.”
Evalina looked down, wondering with a sneer, ‘Yeah, arguing with Hugo is pointless. After all these years, I know him better than anyone. Once he gets mad, he is all about himself.
“No biggie anyway,” Evalina said with a smile.
Jasper watched the two walk away, and then pulled Hugo aside. “Dude, what was that all about? You scared the crap outta me. I ain’t ready to die with you just yet. If something happened to me, think of all the heartbroken girls.”
Hugo stood there, face like a frozen block of ice, staring after them without a word.
Jasper rubbed his chin. “They looked like they were heading to that apartment… Maybe they’re already living together.”
He glanced at Hugo, whose face looked even worse. “This guy seems pretty cool, and he treats Evalina well. It seems they’ve known each other for a while.”
“If you’re that curious, why don’t you follow them and ask?” Hugo finally said, his tone super sour.
“How could I ask that? It’s not like… she’s my wife…” Jasper caught himself before finishing, feeling the intense gaze from beside him. “Uh, we gotta head to that company, Elite Architectural Design. It’s just around here. Let’s hustle.”
Only then did Hugo get pulled along, his face still tight as he walked inside.
Just as Evalina handed Walden a glass of water, his phone rang. “Mr. Clark, we’ve got a potential big investor here. Need you back ASAP,” his assistant Jacob said.
“Who are we talking about here?” Walden asked.
“Just get here. They’re specifically asking for you,” Jacob replied.
Walden was up and moving. “Evalina, come with. You’re gonna be working with us, might as well meet the big players,” he said, already walking towards the door.
Evalina was right behind him. “Sounds good,” she said.
They got to the office, and Jacob was practically vibrating with excitement. “They’re waiting, Mr. Clarke. Hurry up,” he said.
Walden was curious about who was this important to get Jacob this hyped.
They walked in and saw two sharp–dressed guys, one in black and another in white. They looked like they could be movie stars. The room was charged with energy, and everyone was too intimidated to even glance their way.
But Walden and Evalina both did a double take, wondering what Hugo and Jasper were doing here at their office.
The two visitors looked up, and their eyes locked with Walden and Evalina’s. Jasper couldn’t believe it. ‘No way, this is such a crazy coincidence, he thought. We’re here to meet the same guys we almost ran into downstairs?‘
