Chapter 11

My dad was arrested, and so was Sheila because she participated
in the crime.
The Prescott Group couldn’t sustain itself and went bankrupt, and all the Mitchell family’s real estate was used to pay off debts.
Pregnant Tamia was driven out of the villa and went to Leland, crying.
However, Leland just gave her money to stay in a hotel.
Tamia wasn’t even allowed to live in Leland’s house.
Leland called me, “Glinda, I know it must be a tough time for you now, but don’t be afraid. I will handle it…”
To his surprise, I was having coffee with the Vanderbilt Group’s biggest competitor.
I held a stack of materials, which contained all the business secrets and lifeblood of the Vanderbilt Group.
As I received his call, I smiled pleasantly and thanked him.
My smile couldn’t be brighter. “Thank you. But you have to take care of yourself first!”
Three days later, the Vanderbilt Group lost a big deal it could

have pocketed.
A week later, the Vanderbilt Group’s largest partner stopped their cooperation.

Three months later, the Vanderbilt Group was targeted by several competitors. Some of its businesses in the gray area were exposed, causing a stir, and banks began to stop giving the Vanderbilt Group loans.
Since then, the Vanderbilt family has been heading for a rapid
decline.
Leland couldn’t worry about me anymore.
But late one night, Leland called me, his voice full of exhaustion. “Tamia gave birth to a child.” I was silent for a while and replied, “Congratulations.”
My memory seemed to drift back to that afternoon when Leland announced to me that Tamia was pregnant and asked me to be the hostage.
However, the original agony no longer existed and was replaced. by a fluke mind.
Fortunately, I became the hostage for Tamia, and Tamia gave birth to Leland’s child.
Fortunately, my child belonged to Harold.
Leland seemed to be smoking, and I heard him blowing out

smoke. “I’ve figured it out, Glinda.”

He said, “You are the only one who can eavesdrop on your father
at your home and company. And you are the one who can be ruthless enough to revenge him.
“And you have heard all the commercial secrets of the Vanderbilt Group that have been leaked.
“All of this is your plan.”
I lowered my head to drink coffee and replied with a smile, “So what?”
Leland remained silent.
He suppressed his rapid breathing.
After a while, he coughed and smiled bitterly, “If, Glinda, I mean if. If I keep my child and send away Tamia, will you come back to me?”
Even though I was numb to Leland, I still felt disgusted while hearing his words. “You mean you are going to keep the child while abandoning Tamia?”
Leland’s voice was trembling. “Glinda, whether you believe it or not, even though I know what you have done, I still want you. I regret it.
“I regret getting Tamia pregnant, and I regret letting you be a hostage and letting that man take you away…”

His voice was low, frustrated, and discouraged. “Now that my dad and Sheila have been arrested, my family has been severely damaged. Glinda, I believe that’s enough for you to calm your anger and resentment.
“I’ll arrange for Tamia to leave. Let’s start over, shall we? Isn’t my atonement enough to satisfy you?”
I swallowed the coffee and looked out the window at the lights of thousands of houses.
In one year, Harold would be released.
By then, I would have a warm family in this city with Harold.
Looking forward to the future, I felt better, smiled, and said to Leland word by word, “But Mr. Vanderbilt, you are not even worthy of shining my lover’s shoes.
“You only deserve someone like Tamia.”
I hung up the phone, stood before the window, and looked at the night, breathing a long sigh of relief. All grudges ended here.
For the rest of my life, I would have Harold.
A year later, two significant things happened.
My daughter was born, and Harold was released from prison.

The moment my daughter was born, Leland got the news and
came to me.
Since the court auctioned the Mitchell Villa, I bought it back and remade it in the style Delilah had designed.
At this moment, my daughter and I lived there.
I carried my daughter home and saw Leland’s vehicle when I exited my car.
Because the Vanderbilt family suffered a huge loss, Leland was starting almost from scratch. He was a bit down and out now, no longer as dignified as before.
But he was capable, after all, and the Vanderbilt family was recovering slowly.
Tamia gave birth to a child, but she didn’t become Leland’s wife. She forced Leland to marry her almost every day, but he refused, no matter what.
Tamia lost her gentleness and argued endlessly with Leland daily, leaving their child to cry.
During the day, Leland had to turn the tide and save the Vanderbilt Group, while at night, he had to fight with Tamia.
Thus, when we met again, he looked haggard.
Seeing the child in my arms, he forced a smile with sad eyes.
Chapter 11
“Even if he is in jail, you are still willing to bear him a child.”
He lowered his head. “I believe now you do love him.”
I was anxious to take my daughter home, so I just replied, “Yeah! Of course.”
Leland smiled bitterly again.
His smile was sad, showing his fatigue.

Seeing that I was about to close the door, he suddenly asked, “If I hadn’t been obsessed with that freshness at the beginning, would it be our child now?” His eyes were blank as if he were asking me as well as himself.
I shook my head. “Leland, there are no ifs in this world. Nor is there going back.”
I thought for a while and then said, “But I am very grateful that you chose Tamia, or how could I have met my lover?”
I was indeed lucky to meet the man who was like a light that illuminated my darkest moments.
After all was done, I was still grateful for my fate. I was thankful to fate for giving me the right person.
Leland shuddered and turned pale.
After a while, he showed a smile.
Chapter 11
Yet he smiled bitterly, “That’s good. Then, I won’t bother you anymore. I wish you happiness for the rest of your life.”
He turned around, his back looking lonely in the sunset. “Goodbye.”
I looked at his back and suddenly recalled what he had said when we were children.

Little Leland raised his hand and swore to me. “I, Leland, will be nice to Glinda all my life! If I can’t do that, I will be alone for the rest of my life!”
No one knew at that time that the oath was just a kind of joke.
I sighed and went home with my daughter in my arms.
My dad and Sheila were both sentenced, while Tamia and Leland hated each other now.
Everything in the past was finally over.
Next month, Harold would be released from prison…
A month later, I took my daughter to pick up Harold.
Harold held our daughter in his arms and winked at me as if he was about to smile.
But the next second, he suddenly burst into tears and hugged us tightly.
Chapter 11
I held him back, his shoulders wet with my tears.
Now, I finally had a home again.
