Chapter 5

My mom gave all her shares of the company to me. Because of it, my dad had a huge fight with her and didn’t go home for several days.
The stocks in my hand weren’t enough to bankrupt my father’s company, but if I cashed them out, it would take him at least five years to restore the company to its peak again.
Later on, my dad sent me a WhatsApp message: [Glinda, you were very obedient and considerate before. You broke my heart.]
Well, being obedient and considerate got me nowhere but made me end up losing my dad, my fiance and my bedroom. So, this time, I wouldn’t let them do whatever they wanted to me. I would get back what belonged to me!
A while later, my dad sent me several voice messages. Each one lasted sixty seconds.
I played one of them and heard him yelling and cursing me hysterically.
Then I searched for how to cash out stocks on Google. I took a screenshot of it and sent it to him.
Immediately after that, he stopped barking.
A few seconds later, he sent me a message: [Come back

tomorrow noon.]

The next day, I got up early and went to visit Karen Clark, a big shareholder of my dad’s company.
I hadn’t seen Karen for a long time.
Back then, my dad’s company had a funding gap. He asked everyone he knew for investment, but no one helped him. It was my mom that went to meet Karen and persuaded her to invest.
Karen and my mom had been good friends over the years.
Unfortunately, my mom was so upset and depressed that she kept shutting all her friends away before she passed away. So, Karen didn’t know what had happened between my parents.
And by the time she found out about it, Sheila and Tamia had already moved into my house.
I was under my dad’s control at that time. I couldn’t even answer Karen’s phone calls.
I hated to admit it but I was such a coward at that time. If I hadn’t been kidnapped, and if Harold hadn’t shown me another way out, I might have ended up miserably with no one around caring about me at all.
When I snapped out of it, I noticed Karen gazing at me, and her eyes turned red.
“Your father doesn’t allow you to contact me, right?” She asked.

I nodded.

I hadn’t cried since I came back. But at this time, I couldn’t help crying when I saw Karen.
It was time for me to get back at them..
At noon, I walked into my bedroom on time and was amazed.
My exquisite furnishings, plain bedding, and even the flowers and recliner on my terrace had been perfectly restored.
I turned around and nodded to my dad. “Well done. You seem really afraid of me cashing out my stocks.”
My dad had a sullen face, but Sheila tried to smooth things over. “Oh, Glinda. What are you talking about? That’s not good. Your father has been thinking about always holding a dinner party to welcome you home and get you out of bad luck.”
I was admiring my newly manicured nails casually when I heard this. I raised my eyebrows. “A dinner party?”
I stood up and said, “Fine. I’d like it.”
I glanced at my dad. “Are you going to hold a party for me? No. wonder you haven’t taken one more look at me since I came back from the six–month kidnap. Oh, so you have a surprise for me!”

My dad’s face darkened, and he tried to say something. But as he saw my ironic half–smile, he just gritted his teeth and nodded.
Then, he glared at Sheila as if she had got him into trouble.
Sheila probably didn’t expect that the former taciturn Glinda would agree to a party, as she said.
Yet, there would be more like this to come.
I looked at the bracelet on my wrist.
It was a silver bracelet with rough workmanship and an ugly pattern, very ordinary. But because of that, no one noticed that the bracelet was set with a rare emerald.
Harold gave it to me.
He carefully put the bracelet on me and said, “Tomorrow, you’ll be back in the sun. You must fight them, bite them, and try to get back what’s yours. Then, you’ll stand over their heads and look down on them.”
It was the bracelet his father gave him to save his life. Harold hadn’t sold it for money even when he was starving to death, but at that time, he put it in my hand in good faith.
I stroked the bracelet on my hand and urged my dad, “What’s wrong, Dad? Are you worried about whom to invite to the party? It’s okay. I’ll help you figure it out.”
I called Karen, “Karen, my dad is going to hold a dinner party

for me. Could you please help me figure out whom to invite, or could you please help me invite them directly? I hope there are more people so that it is lively and can help me get rid of bad. luck.”
My dad’s face turned livid with anger. “Glinda! How dare you! Now that you’re pregnant with a kidnapper’s child, how can you be so shameless as to appear in public?”
I pointed at Tamia casually. “Then what do you think of Tamia’s child?” My dad was speechless instantly.
Sheila then tried to calm down the situation again. “Since things. have happened, there is no point in fussing over it. Glinda, why don’t you just accept the reality, let go of those grievances, and bless Tamia? After all, she is your sister…”
I smiled and nodded. “Sure. I will accept it. I can give Leland to Tamia. That’s no problem at all. I don’t want him.
“But I must have that party.”
My dad looked at my phone. The call page on it was open, and it showed the name of Karen’s good friend, a well–known stockbroker in the city, who was particularly good at cashing out
stocks.
My dad had to nod with a dark face.
I had achieved my goal and didn’t want to stay with them any longer, so I locked the bedroom and went downstairs.

Tamia followed me silently with resentful eyes.

As we approached the first floor, she suddenly asked me, “Glinda, you say you don’t want Leland anymore and can give him to me. Do you really mean it?”
I waved my hand as if trying to shoo away a fly. “Who would dwell on a piece of garbage? If you want him, of course, I’ll give him to you. You guys are a perfect match.”
As I finished my words, I heard a cough.
Leland was standing downstairs with his back straightened and his chin slightly raised. And the pallor of his face was hard to conceal.
