Chapter 4: Undying Trust to Alpha
“What nonsense are you talking about? How is that possible?” Scott’s usual confident demeanor was gone. Alpha‘ s eyes, were wide and filled with confusion.
“It’s true, Alpha.”
Scott slowly lowered his phone, his face drained of all color. He turned to look at
me, but I was on my knees, carefully collecting the ashes scattered on the cold, damp ground, determined not to leave any part of my mother behind.
“I’m sorry, Ariana. I didn’t know… I’ll help you,” he offered, his voice breaking as he
crouched down beside me.
“Don’t touch my mother! You don’t deserve it!” My voice was a low, guttural growl that echoed through the quiet cemetery. I slapped his hands away.
I could feel the beast within me, urging me

to tear Scott apart for what he did. But I couldn’t transform into my wolf form even after the awakening age.
“Ariana, what are you talking about? I didn’t kill her. I thought your mother was getting better. She was stable enough for the surgery. How could she die so suddenly?”
I stood up slowly, “Why? Do you want to know why? Fine, I’ll tell you why.”
I could see Scott flinch under the intensity of my glare, but I didn’t care. He needed to hear this, to understand the pain he had caused.
“On our wedding day,” I began, my voice shaking with barely restrained fury, “my mother got up at three in the morning to help me get dressed. She was so excited, Scott. She wanted to be there to witness her daughter’s happiness. She wanted to see you, her son–in–law, holding my hand and walking me down the aisle.”

My voice cracked as I continued, the memories of that day flooding back with brutal clarity. “She was so proud, so happy. She couldn’t stop smiling, Scott. She told everyone, every single person who would listen, that she had found the perfect man for her daughter. You. She believed in you. She loved you like her own son.”
“We waited for you, Scott. From morning till noon, we waited. I called you so many times, but you never answered. My relatives began to whisper, asking my mother why the groom hadn’t shown up yet. She was so embarrassed, but she still defended you. She told them you must‘ ve been delayed, that you‘ d be there any moment.”
Tears blurred my vision, but I forced myself to keep going, to make him understand. “We waited for you until nightfall. I kept calling, but you never picked up. My mother grew worried, not angry, Scott–worried. She thought something terrible must have happened to

you.”
“The guests began to leave, their eyes filled with pity and judgment. They looked at us like we were fools, as if this whole thing was a joke. Some of them even cursed us, Scott. They accused us of staging some kind of scam because they couldn’t believe the groom would just not show up. But even then, my mother defended you. She said you must have had a good reason.”
My hands clenched into fists as I fought to keep my voice steady. “It was nine o’clock by the time everyone had gone. My mother wasn’t well, Scott. I begged her to rest, but she refused. She kept saying you‘ d come, that you were the best man she‘ d ever known, and there was no way you‘ d miss something this important.”
“Scott, you’ll never understand what that day was like for us. You’ll never know the agony of waiting, the torment of watching the clock as the hours dragged on. My mother held on until midnight, still

hoping, believing in you.”
I didn’t let him talk, and I continued. “When midnight came and went, she finally gave up. The realization that you weren’t coming was too much for her. Her heart couldn’t take it, and she died of a heart attack, right there, in the dress she had so carefully chosen for my mating
ceremony.”
I met Scott‘ s eyes, my voice now eerily calm. “If you had just called me back, Scott, just once, things might have been different. But you didn’t. You only cared about. Winona. My mother and I meant nothing to you.”
I watched as the weight of my words sank in, as Scott se
gaze fell to the urn that held what was left of my mother. Tears welled
up in his eyes, and he whispered, “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry…”
But his apologies meant nothing to me now. “It’s too late, Scott. She can‘ t hear
you, and you’ll never get her forgiveness.”

My voice was cold, devoid of the warmth it
once held for him.
“I’m sorry, Ariana. I never meant for any this to happen. I didn’t know.”
But I had no more forgiveness left to give. “Don’t apologize to me. I won’t forgive you,” I said, my tone final and unyielding.

I turned and walked away, clutching my mother’s urn close to my chest. As I passed Winona, I felt her eyes on me, filled with a cold, quiet triumph. I stopped and looked at her dead in the eye.
“Congratulations,” my voice was a low growl. “You won.”
