Chapter 8: Truth Revealed
Winona took it, her fingers caressing the handle as if it were a cherished possession. She approached me again, this time with the dagger in hand.
“Your face isn’t particularly pretty,” she mused, her eyes locked on mine. “Why is Scott so obsessed with it?” Her voice was soft, almost contemplative, but there was a dark edge to it that made my blood run. cold.
Winona leaned in, the dagger‘ s tip hovering over the right side of my face. Her eyes, wide and innocent, belied the cruelty hidden within them. She applied pressure to the blade, and I felt a sharp, searing pain as it cut into my skin.
“Ugh…” I gasped, the pain blinding me for a moment. Blood welled up from the wound, warm and sticky as it trickled down my cheek and onto my clothes.

Winona feigned surprise, her lips forming a mock pout. “Ah, I barely touched you, and you‘ re already bleeding?” she cooed, her tone laced with mockery. “I wonder if Scott will feel bad when he sees you like this.”
Her words were cruel, but the gleam of excitement in her eyes was even more terrifying. This was a game for her, a twisted way to exact revenge.
“Winona, are you crazy?!” I screamed, trying to pull away from her, but the ropes held me in place.
“That‘ s strange,” Winona mused, tilting her head as if deep in thought. “Scott also said I’m crazy lately.” She giggled a sound that sent chills down my spine.
“But why do I feel like you two are the crazy ones?”
She seemed to lose herself in her thoughts, her expression becoming more unhinged with each passing second. “I thought you two would break up if I ruined your

wedding. So, I went so far as to poison my dog to death, and it did work.”
The day of the mating ceremony went flashing at the back of my mind, and the day when my mother’s grave was. disrespected by them. “How could you! Scott was in love with you and you tried to manipulate him and even use my mother’s grave just to get between us? You‘ re part of Scott‘ s pack, we are not. We already know that, but why?!”
“Because Scott gave up on marrying you for me. He suddenly cared about you so much after you left! Tell me, Ariana, what did you do to make him crazy like that? He was at the tip of my claws, and now he’s gone!”
“I don‘ t know what you are saying, Winona. But I swear to the moon goddess, I am in this mountain to get far from your and him. If he is crazy, then that’s your problem. Just please… let me go.”

rose in pitch, her excitement growing pressed the dagger deeper into my flesh. The pain was unbearable, and I could feel the blood streaming down my face as she carved into me.
A deep, long cut marred the right side of my face, the skin split open by Winona‘ s relentless blade. My reflection in her eyes showed a grotesque, disfigured version of myself, a far cry from the woman I had once been.
Blood streamed down my face, hot and sticky, as the gash Winona had carved into my right cheek oozed crimson. The cloth on my right shoulder was instantly soaked, the scent of iron thick in the air.
Winona, now more beast than a delicate. werewolf, threw her head back and laughed, a sound that was a mix of malice and madness. Her eyes, once human, now glowed with unnatural light. “Look at you! That ugly scar–I’m sure Scott won’t be obsessed with you anymore!”

She moved closer, her movements fluid and predatory, her once delicate fingers now tipped with claws. “But wait,” she hissed, tilting her head as though pondering some great mystery. “There‘ s another side, isn‘ t there? Should I make the wounds symmetrical? Wouldn’t that be just perfect?”
With a cruel grin, she raised the blade to the untouched side of my face, and with deliberate slowness, she began to cut. The pain spread like fire, burning every nerve. My vision blurred, but I could still see her, could still see the monster she had
become. The woman I once knew was gone, replaced by this… this thing delighted in my suffering.
My lips trembled as I tried to speak, to appeal to whatever shred of humanity might be left in her. “Winona… stop. Don’t be so stubborn. You’ll only push Scott further away.” My voice was weak, each word cost me a surge of agony as the new cut on my cheek widened.

She paused, her glowing eyes narrowing as she regarded me with disdain. “He already avoids me like the plague,” she growled, the sound more animal than human. “How much further can I push him?”
The dagger twisted again, and I screamed, the sound echoing off the walls of the dark, damp factory. I had hoped to faint, to escape the pain, but my body clung to consciousness, forcing me to endure every second of it.
Winona, still muttering to herself, began to speak of things I didn’t understand. “Did you know? I found out your mother was dead long before Scott did. I could have told him, but I didn’t. I let him believe you were just too busy, too distant. And when my dog died… oh, I played that for all it was worth. He stayed with me, and comforted me when you, his supposed to be ‘mate‘ needed him the most. I took
everything from you, Ariana. And I enjoyed. every second of it.”
