That explained it. There was no mistaking it now–the food had that distinct
quality, that extra bit of magic that only a werewolf chef could bring. We had
heightened senses, especially when it came to taste and smell, so our food was always richer and more complex. Human cuisine simply couldn’t compare.
Five years… It had been five long years since I’d last tasted anything from home.
And here I was, not even recognizing it right away. A pang of homesickness hit me, deep and sudden, as if I’d been ignoring it for far too long.
“Thank you,” I said quietly, my voice softer now. I didn’t want him to see how
much this meant to me.
Alaric waved me off, trying to play it cool. “Come on, Sis. No need to get all sentimental. Honestly, I’m just happy to see you. Plus, I’m a huge fan now. You can thank me by acting in more movies so I can watch them!”
Movies…
That word felt heavy, laden with memories I wasn’t sure I wanted to dredge up.
When I first followed Dwight into Hollywood, he treated me like an afterthought a burden, someone who was dragging him down.
He never believed in me, always making me feel small, like I didn’t belong. But I fought for my place. I worked hard, and eventually, I landed a few roles that gained some attention.
That was when Dwight changed his tune. Suddenly, he wanted me to step back, to fade into the background, claiming the family didn’t need two earners in the spotlight.
My career had never been validated–not by him or my family. After that, I took

fewer roles. These last few years, I barely appeared on–screen, save for a few
pitiful moments on Slow Life, a show where I felt more like a piece of furniture than an actual person.
“Oh yeah, Sis,” Alaric said, his voice breaking through my thoughts. “What happened with Slow Life? I really liked seeing you on that show. It wasn’t the same after you left.”
I glanced at him, surprised.
He had been watching Slow Life?
I’d always thought I was invisible on that show, just another background face among the bigger stars. I never imagined anyone, let alone Alaric, would tune in just for me.
But it didn’t matter anymore. Because of Dwight, I wasn’t going back to that show–or any show, really. Not anytime soon.
Seeing my silence, Alaric’s face fell. “Did I say something wrong?”

“No,” I shook my head, swallowing the mix of emotions bubbling up inside. “It’s just… due to some personal issues, I won’t be on that show anymore. Sorry to disappoint you.”
He waved it off, quick to recover. “It’s just a show. But hey, Sis, how about this? Would you consider taking on a new script? Give your number one fan something to look forward to.”
Alaric was my number–one fan?
Did I even have fans? My acting career was full of background roles so the thought had never occurred to me.
I glanced at Alaric, seeing his eyes full of hope and expectation. He genuinely looked like a giddy fan.

I guess I can’t let my number one fan down,‘ I thought to myself.
As soon as I nodded, Alaric had already pulled out a script, almost as if he had been waiting for this moment.
He looked excited, like a child on Christmas morning, the script held tightly in his
hands as if it were a precious gift. The air around us buzzed with anticipation as
everyone around us enjoyed their breakfast, creating a cozy atmosphere that
seemed to amplify our conversation.
“It’s a script by James Osbourne,‘ Alaric said, placing the script on the table.
The moment the director’s name came up, my eyes widened in surprise. This
director was renowned for making art films–though he didn’t produce many,
each one was a masterpiece, with lush cinematography and complex characters that lingered in your mind long after the credits rolled.
He had won countless awards, including a couple of prestigious international film
festival accolades. The thought of working with him sent a shiver of excitement down my spine.
“Alaric, how did you get your hands on this script?” I asked, my curiosity piqued.
“What if I told you that I got it specifically for you? Would you believe me?” Alaric said, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
I smiled, feeling warmth spread through me. It was nice to think he had thought of me in this way. I playfully tapped his forehead with my knuckles, teasing him, “Did you pick up these sweet lines while flirting with girls, and now you’re using them
on me?”
Alaric’s eyes dimmed for a brief moment, almost as if he had considered the implications of my words. But when he looked back at me, his gaze was bright again, filled with a mixture of hope and determination, his smile revealing two sharp little canine teeth.

“I invested in this movie, and I’ve been racking my brain over who to cast as the
lead. And then you showed up,” he said, his voice steadying as if he were trying to
convince both me and himself.
