Chapter 12
Silverstone’s pov
Jared’s voice cut through my internal struggle.
“Silverstone, what’s really going on? And don’t tell me that it’s nothing. I’ve known you for too long to fall for that.” He roared, his eyes didn’t flicker, even for a second.
I stared at him for a while, the man I had trusted, fought beside and loved unconditionally. He’s the same man who, in the future, had turned against me. Against everything we shared.
How can I trust him now!
The weight of what lies ahead in the future pressed down on me, suffocating in its intensity, letting events naturally unfold as they did before wasn’t that just as dangerous?
–
I took a deep breath, my thoughts slowly fading away.
“Jared.” I began, my voice steadier than the way I felt.
“There’s nothing that I need to tell you.
His eyes widened, he looked around, hoping for a tint of understanding. His face, masked in confusion and disbelief. He turned to me, questions burning in his eyes.
“It’s ok if you don’t want to let it all out. I understand.” He adjusted himself, grabbing my right hand.
“Can you at least give me the chance to love you?”
I was completely taken aback by his request. I knew he had a lot to ask me, but I wasn’t expecting it.
I thought that he would yell at mescold me. Something.
Anything
Anything but talk about his feelings for me.
Jared.” I opened my mouth to speak but his buzzing phone interrupted.
He excused himself and took the call, he looked a little nervous. I wondered if everything was alright.
“Is there a problem?” I asked immediately he hung up the call.
“Not exactly, I have an emergency, Silverstone. We’ll continue our discussion later.” He buried his phone in his pocket and hurriedly left.
It didn’t feel right, a part of me wanted to follow him from behind. Who know, he might be up to something fishy, besides he never does anything good.
The door creaked open and my sister walked in, a bright smile playing on her lips. She has always been the happy child who got everything at her beck and call
“Hello un,” Serena waved at me, shutting the door behind her.

Chapter 12
“You asked me to see you later in the day, is anything the matter?”
I looked at her for a minute, she was genuinely worried about me.
“Everything is fine Starena” I teased her, her late grandmother always addressed her as ‘Starena” because she said she wished. she was a star when she was a child.
She bl..
blushed, slightly pulling her hair backwards with her index finger.
“Now I miss grandma.” She squeezed her lips, it was as though she would cry the next minute.
Her mouth drooped at the corners like wilting flower petals, while her eyes, usually bright with life, had grown dull and glassy.
“Hey, don’t be like that. Grandma has gone to meet the moon goddess” I reassured her with a smile.
The reason I asked Serena to see me was because of the picture I found in Jared’s drawer. The picture he took with Lisa. I wanted to know their relationship. But I didn’t know how to go about it, I didn’t want her to suspect anything
“Your friend Lisa. I haven’t seen her in a while. Where is she?” I started, I figured that that was a better way to bring up the
conversation.
“She’s fine. She just left the pack now. She had a call. She left in a hurry.” She explained, Deep creases carved their way from her nose to her chin.
My brows shot up, my eyes widened. “Did she tell you where she was going?” I asked hastily, desperation written all over my
face
“No. I didn’t bother to ask her. Is there a problem?” She queried. But I didn’t respond.
“Around what time did she leave?”
“Few minutes after I left you and Jared,” she explained, her suspicion growing even more.
That was about the same time that Jared left, what business does Lisa have with Jared, I sure need to find out.
“Sis, is there a problem? Is there something I don’t know? You’ve been acting really weird lately and it’s very obvious that thus is not the Silverstone that I grew up with.”
“There is no.” I tried to speak but she cut me off.
“Firstly, you discharged a pack elder,”
“He tampered with the pack’s laws.”
“Then you’ve been sneaking around, acting like you’re trying to uncover something.”
“I’m just looking
“I’m just looking out for my park” Serena completed my statement.
The atmosphere changed, everywhere suddenly became calm, save for the methodical ticking of the clock on the wall. Each second dropped into the stillness like a pebble into a deep well, echoing through the empty space.
“Look Serene,” I grabbed her hands, gently massaging her fingers.

Chapter 12
“Our father was killed in this pack in his room! Is that not enough reason to be conscious?”
She didn’t say a word, for a while. I thought she saw reasons with me..
“But our father was killed by Beta Marcus, who is already locked up. So why are you still so bothered?”
“You think Marcus commited the crime alone?” She was silent again, it was as though she was thinking.
“I confronted Marcus before and he confessed that Jared had a hand in our father’s death but unfortunately, I didn’t record
it
I noticed that her face changed when I revealed that truth to her. She looked tense, not surprised. It was like she already knew about it but was shocked that I knew.
“I want to confront Marcus today, I’ll make him confess again. But this time, I’ll record it.” Her brows raised, I noticed her fingers shake uncontrollably.
She was scared. It was obvious.
“You don’t have any reason to be scared, Serena. I’ll protect you with everything I have, I’ll die before any harm comes to you.” I hugged her passionately but she didn’t last a minute in my arms.
She let herself out of my arms, her countenance changed completely.
“Oh! I forgot! Elish had told me to get something for her. I got carried away conversing with you.”
She kept her tone light, but the tension was palpable.
In a hast, she left the room.
I rested my head, but suddenly, my eyes caught with a piece of paper on the floor, just beside where Serena sat.
I picked it, trying to figure out what it was. It was a torn paper, a torn picture. I stared at it closely, it looked like Serena’s picture.
But why would she tear her own picture? And why did she leave in such a rush after I opened up to her about Jared’s involvement in our father’s death?
A lot of questions ran through my mind, but only time can reveal the answers.
