Chapter 21
Silverstone’s pov
During my training exercises, I accidentally sent my sparring partner flying across the field with a casual swipe. Something 1 couldn’t have done before my rebirth.
While helping in the repair of a damaged section of our pack, I lifted a boulder that should have taken three wolves to move. Everything was different, at some point I could say that I became scared of myself.
Each incident left me more shaken, more exposed. I could see the questions forming in my packmates‘ eyes, Beta James was the most surprised.
All through the years that he has been training me, he had never seen me possess such powers.
I
whispers followed me wherever I went. Knowing that I could protect my pack was good, but my inability to control myself was killing me.
Every time I did the extraordinary, there was always Jared, watching with that same intense curiosity. He was probably trying to figure out what was going on, all to aid his mission in the future.
“Ill be back. Silverstone. My partner for the day, Darcon, excused himself. Darcon is also one of the strongest Betas of our pack. With years of consistent training, he sure had a lot of muscles.
My glance caught with Jared who has been staring at me since the beginning of my training. He was also there to train. Jared cornered me in a quiet corridor, his body blocking my path.
“Silverstone,” he said, his voice low and urgent.
“We need to talk about what’s been happening.”
There you go again? How many times do I need to answer this question?” I bit my lip, glancing around anxiously.
I tried to sidestep him, but he moved with me, keeping me pinned.
“There’s nothing to talk about, Jared. I told you, I’m fine.” My voice trembled, barely above a whisper.
He wasn’t convinced, Jared was naturally not the type to be easily persuaded.
His hand shot out, gripping my arm. I could have broken his hold easily with my new strength, but the shock of his touch. froze me in place. Besides, I had to control myself so I didn’t raise his suspicions.
“Don’t lie to me,” he growled.
“I’ve
Tve known you too long. Something’s changed. Your speed, your strength… it’s not natural. Even for a Luna.”
“I don’t have anything to say to you Jared,”
I met his gaze, seeing the swirl of emotions there- concern, fear, and something else. Excitement?
“Jared, please. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Besides, you can’t keep stalking me like this.” My hands fidgeted, unable to find stillness.
His grip tightened slightly. “Then tell me everything about it. We could explore this together. Silverstone. Think of what it could mean for the pack. For us. He continued and that completely irritated me.
Since when did he start caring about the pack? The same pack he wants to ruin.
The intensity in his voice sent a shiver down my spine. This was dangerous territory. If Jared discovered the truth about my rebirth, about the future I was trying to prevent it would be dire
“I appreciate your concern,” I said carefully, gently removing his hand from my arm.
“I’m fine on my own. Jared, there’s nothing that you need to know,”
For a long moment, he said nothing, his eyes searching my face. Finally, he stepped back.
“Alright, if you say so.” He said, his voice neutral.
“But be careful. I’ll see you tomorrow then. I will pick you up. Just beep me once you’re done.”
As I watched him walk away, a chill settled in my bones. I released the breath that I had been holding.
“Finally!” I whispered within myself.
Jared’s words echoed in my mind, a grim reminder of the future I was fighting to change. A future where power had indeed changed him, turned him against everything we held dear. Against his kingdom, the same power that ruined us.
1 leaned against the wall, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath. My new abilities were a gift, I was sure of it now. A tool to help me protect my pack, to stop the tragedies I knew were coming to stop Jared and all those accomplices.
But they were also a liability, threatening to expose my secret before I was ready. I had to control myself, maybe I need to tell Maria about this. She knew a banshee, maybe they could help me.
As I made my way back to my quarters, I made a silent vow. I would master these new powers, learn to control them before they controlled me.
I knew the right person to talk to about it and it was definitely not jared.
I can’t trust that bastard, not even for a second.
But for now, I need to find a way to handle things by myself, until I was ready to tell Klein and Maria the whole truth.
Because the alternative–trusting Jared, revealing too much too soon- was unthinkable.
The future of my pack, of everyone I loved, depended on it. And this time, I wouldn’t fail them. No matter the cost. And I can’t let that happen, not again.
The thought of Lisa’s place in Jared’s life flashed through my mind, it was better I confronted Serena about it. She was the perfect person to talk to
I reached out to Elish.
“Have you seen my sister today?”
“My queen, the last time I saw her, she was having a word with master Jared” Elish explained,
“What were they talking about?” I asked, my face was masked with a mix of concern and suspicion.
“I’m not sure my queen. I wasn’t listening”
What could Serena possibly be discussing with Jared?
“Send a word across to her, tell her that Luna sent for her.”
30%
Elish left and I headed to my room. I was already too tired from the training. I wanted to rest, but a lot of things were on my mind.
As I was about to open my door, Elish’s voice stopped me.
“I forgot to tell you, when Serena was with Jared, I found Lisa in your room.”
“What’s?!”
