Chapter 6
“Uncle…” Before I could finish, Alexander Pierce grabbed my wrist.
His grip was so strong that I stumbled forward instinctively.
Losing my balanco, I fell into his embraco.
The woody fragrance amanating from him brought a sense of security and comfort.
is this….. what a mature man is like?
Alexander spoke: “Aren’t you going to get up?”
I hurriedly came to my senses and stood up to leave, but he stopped me with a stern command: “Take today off. Come
back to report tomorrow.”
I was about to refuse this job, but considering my y current financial struggles and remembering Ethan’s earlier reaction-
ho’d always hated seeing Alexander doing well.
What if people in the industry found out that Ethan Pierce’s girlfriend had become his uncle’s woman? Would he be
ridiculed? Embarrassed? Would it break him?
With this thought, I stopped, turned around, and smiled at Alexander: “Yes, Mr. Pierce.”
Back home, I deliberately bought my favorite hairy crabs
For three years, just because Ethan hated the smell of hairy crabs, I had almost forgotten their taste.
But now I realize, love is about compromise.
He didn’t love me, so naturally, I was the only one compromising, wearing away my edges for nothing.
When I opened the box of hairy crabs, the rich aroma filled the air. Just as I was about to feast, the doorbell rang.
Reluctantly, I took off my gloves and opened the door.
A figure rushed in front of me, gripping me tightly- Ethan, staring at me with reddened eyes.
“Grace, are you leaving me?” Ethan choked out
He stared into my eyes, his gaze slightly reddened with what seemed like both unwillingness and desperation. Even his
usually cold, arrogant voice had turned hoarse.
In that moment, I felt dazed.
Even after sharing a bed for three years, I still couldn’t understand Ethan.
But I could soo clearly into my own heart, knowing I was no longer bound to him.
I spoke softly: “Ethon, you were the one who loft me first”
“At the wedding venue, you pushed me into the spotlight, left me humiliated. Where were you when everyone was
mocking me?”
Ethan pulled me into his arms, holding me desperately.
As if trying to meld me into his
very
bones.
He whispered in my ear, his voice breaking: “Don’t leave me, Grace, Como back, please.”
The mighty Mr. Pierce, actually begging me to reconcile?
I was stunned for a moment, then let out a cold laugh, imagining that if I followed him back to the villa, Sophia Reed would probably be hiding behind the door, covering her mouth and loughing at how I was just Ethan’s backup, coming and
going at his back and call.
I’ve been a backup for three years. It’s time to wake up.
“No, Ethan. Let’s and this amicably.” As soon as I finished speaking, I pushed him away.
He looked at me in disbelief, his eyes filled with bitterness and angor: “Is it because of Alexander?”
“You know I can’t stand him! You’re just trying to get back at me! For humiliating you in public!”
Hearing this, I couldn’t hold back anymore and slapped Ethan hard across the face.
“Slap!”
After the crisp sound of the slap, the room fell dead silent.
I walked to the table, pointing at the hairy crabs and shouted: “Because of you, I haven’t touched crabs for three years!
You never know what I liked or disliked. I was always the one accommodating you, and now you’re asking me not to leave?
What a joke!”
The amotional outburst loft me almost breathless, my face flushed. My fingers gripped the edge of the table so tightly
that my knuckles turned white.
Ethan clenched his fists, suppressing the turmoil in his heart, and spoke with a hint of bitterness: “I’m sorry. Grace.”
After he left, I stared at the hairy crabs in front of me, my appetite completely gone
