The second memory showed me at Dani’s
<
house, trying to convince her to confess.
The front door was slightly open, and I heard
voices arguing inside.
“Why would you do this?” It was Dani’s
sister, Olivia.
“You know Andrew doesn’t want you
anymore, why can’t you move on?!”
“You left him when things were hard, you said
you’d never come back! Now that he has
money, and Sarah, you want to destroy him?
And you pulled that oxygen mask?!”
“Are you not afraid of the consequences?”
“If the old lady hadn’t said I wasn’t good
enough for Andrew, I wouldn’t have had to!”
く
Hearing this, I was stunned. I never thought
Dani would frame Mrs. Hamilton for such a
simple reason.
“The more she tried to stop me from marrying
him, the more I want to be with him.”
“You’re my sister, and you’re supporting that
outsider Sarah? Once I marry into that family,
we will be set, Olivia. I’m doing it for the both
of us!”
Olivia’s anger grew, “I don’t need that money,
I need you to do the right thing. I’m going to
call the cops!”
I pushed the door fully open and Olivia saw
me, just as Dani gave her a violent shove.
Olivia screamed, falling down the stairs. I
<
watched, frozen, in horror.
Dani stared at her sister in a daze. “It was
their fault, it was their fault!”
Dani ran out, and I raced after her, phone in
hand, calling the police.
Dani sped off in her car, and I gave chase.
On a stretch of road with no cameras, Dani
swerved into my car. I felt a sharp jolt of pain,
and then everything went black.
I woke up in the hospital, my hands in cuffs.
“Sarah, you are being charged with murder
and attempted assault. We have evidence.
Please come with us.”
Then, the screen went dark.
Andrew and his father stood there in shock,
realizing the truth: Dani had done everything.
They realized that when Mrs. Hamilton didn’t
want Dani to marry Andrew, not Sarah.
The courtroom was deathly silent.
Except for my screams.
I was in so much pain. It felt like a red hot
poker was being twisted in my brain.
Why was I still alive?
Andrew, my ex–fiancé, I saw him reaching for
me, tears running down his face.
く
Andrew, you regret it now? But I don’t care
anymore…
“We were wrong! We were wrong!”
Andrew was a mess. He finally understood
everything, the lies, the truth.
It was all a lie, and Dani was the puppet
master.
He was glad that he insisted on the Memory
Extraction, otherwise, Sarah’s name would
have been ruined.
But now, he regretted the decision, he could
not stand the pain the procedure was causing
her. He couldn’t look at the screen, he
wanted it to stop, because he knew that it
was killing her.
<
“Stop it! Please, your Honor, stop it now!”
“Sarah is innocent! Please stop it, she doesn’t deserve this, it’s killing her!”
Andrew was collapsing on himself, begging
for the procedure to stop. He tried to get to
me, but the cops stopped him.
The judge frowned at him, “You must calm
yourself, the Memory Extraction is not
something we can stop. Only once the
process is over can we stop it.”
Andrew’s lip started to tremble. What was he
going to do?
